130POSITION SUMMARY:
The Math Coach supports the development and implementation of high-quality mathematics instruction across all grade levels, with a targeted focus on strengthening Tier 1 instruction and improving student achievement aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE). This position is designed to build teacher capacity, improve instructional clarity, and ensure consistent, research-based math practices across the school. The Math Coach works closely with teachers to implement effective strategies in number sense, problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, and discourse. The Math Coach plays a critical role in accelerating student growth, improving GMAS readiness—particularly in Grades 3 and 5—and strengthening overall instructional effectiveness across the school. This position builds long-term instructional capacity, ensuring improvements in mathematics are sustained beyond a single school year.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Must hold or be eligible to hold a valid Georgia teaching certificate or leadership certificate. Must have at least 5 years successful teaching experience. Experience in providing professional development /coaching adult learners. Experience with effectively facilitating the curriculum development process. Experience with implementing evidence-based practices. Experience working with a diverse group of people. Embodies the core values of the district; relational, purposeful, reflective, resourceful, courageous and accountable. Must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function of the position. Experience in instructional coaching, professional development, or math leadership roles. Familiarity with Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) frameworks and tasks. Experience with i-Ready and other assessment platforms. Knowledge of best practices in math discourse, small-group instruction, and intervention. Experience supporting diverse learners, including Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Models and coaches effective, standards-aligned math instruction in classrooms. Provides side-by-side coaching and feedback to teachers to improve instructional delivery. Supports teachers in strengthening Tier 1 math instruction aligned to GSE standards. Leads professional learning focused on: Number sense and fluency Problem-solving strategies Mathematical reasoning and discourse Use of manipulatives and visual models Collaborates with grade-level teams to: Analyze student performance data (i-Ready, common assessments, GMAS trends) Plan targeted instruction and intervention Identify gaps in student understanding Supports implementation of high-quality math tasks, including: GaDOE Framework Tasks 3-Act Tasks Number Talks and discourse routines Assists in designing and supporting the Math Lab to ensure alignment with classroom instruction and school goals. Develops and maintains systems for: Monitoring student progress Tracking instructional impact Supporting continuous improvement Works collaboratively with the School Improvement Specialist, Literacy Coach, and administration to align instructional priorities. Participates in PLCs, data meetings, and instructional rounds. Ensures all coaching efforts are collaborative, non-evaluative, and focused on student outcomes. Maintains documentation of coaching cycles, teacher support, and student progress. Performs other duties as assigned.PERFORMANCE FACTORS
