JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Idaho State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement All teachers are required to be highly qualified in core content areas; refer to the Idaho State Department of Education for details and requirements Successful classroom teaching experience in mathematics, prefer secondary experience Successful application of MTI strategies Preferred participation in site leadership in one or more of the following areas: academic department leadership, team leadership, site-based improvement Successful experience in curriculum writing and implementation Successful experience as a trainer of adults in instructional strategies Knowledge of Common Core State Standards and Mathematical Practices Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, interpersonal skills, collaboration, conflict resolution, planning, teamwork and organization techniques Ability to design collaborative, job-embedded, standards-based professional learning through coaching, modeling and mentoring Must maintain confidentiality Must be able to travel to school sites Applicant must be able to work a flexible work schedule in order to teach professional development classes outside the certified work day.
Knowledge of:
Evidence of successful technical training and experience providing training for adults; Current K-12 instructional practices, principles and techniques of instructional technology; Applications commonly used in Boise School District settings including but not limited to Google Suite, Infinite Campus, Demonstrated leadership and organizational project management skills; Considerable working knowledge of computer devices, software and Web 2.0 tools (e.g Windows, Mac and/or Unix) Current trends research and instructional math strategies necessary to effectively engage students in the learning process. Content knowledge and resources about learning and teaching including teaching strategies, assessment techniques, interpretation of assessment results, and practices that promote reading and math achievement. Math Instructional methods and training techniques including curriculum design principles, learning theory, group and individual teaching techniques, design of individual development math plans and test design principles; Scientifically based research; Ability to: Work in partnership with the math coaching team and school staff; Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, interpersonal skills, leadership, collaboration, conflict resolution, planning, teamwork and organization techniques; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other District employees, supervisory personnel, students and parents; Maintain confidentiality; Define specific goals and develop sound strategies to accomplish instructional objectives; Operate standard office equipment including a personal computer using program applications appropriate to assigned duties; Manage multiple projects, handle interruptions, prioritize work, and return to and complete tasks in a timely manner; Perform other duties related as determined.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The District Math Coach will provide leadership and support for district staff in understanding of the math standards and instructional strategies and tools. This position will work in collaboration with Curriculum Supervisors, Building Administration, Teachers, and Building Leadership Teams. The position is intended to facilitate growth in teacher and staff leaders. Close the student achievement gap and accelerate learning for all students by building teacher capacity through implementation of effective math instructional practices. The Math Coach will work with staff at all Boise School District schools to provide support for the implementation of research-based instructional strategies. Preferred applicants will have deep content knowledge of Mathematics, a range of grade level experience, and knowledge of the needs of struggling students. Implement the strategies outlined in the Strategic Plan Conducts demonstration lessons to ensure that all teachers have been trained to an advanced level of delivery and are using the instructional materials as designed. Provides on-site staff development to ensure that teachers are knowledgeable about using the components and understand the instructional design that meets the standards (alignment). Assists teachers in building integrated lessons and assures that recommendations for improvement are implemented. Serves as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement for all students. Assists teachers in incorporating Literacy strategies in math lessons. Participation in collaborative grade level meetings to assist in the analysis and utilization of assessment data to improve the focus of instructional planning and student achievement. Assists grade level teams in setting goals for improved instruction and RTI implementation. Attends meetings and training as directed.
