Qualifications:

Valid Teacher Certification per state certification authorities as set by state certification authorities. Math endorsement or Masters in Math preferred. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports to:

District Title I Program Director/Principal and other district administrators as identified

Supervises:

Instructional aide(s) and volunteers as assigned. To provide diagnostic and prescriptive help for students needing remediation in mathematics.

Responsibilities:

Understands theoretical models and philosophies of math, relevance to instruction, as well as the scope and sequences of math instruction at all developmental levels. Demonstrates understanding of the construction of math assessments, and administers, as appropriate, local and state math tests, benchmarking assessments, and progress monitoring tools to show student growth and progress in math. Understands diagnostic models of mathematics that include student proficiency with number sense, operations, algebraic thinking, measurement, data, geometry, and motivation and uses appropriate assessments to identify students experiencing math difficulties. Determines students' math levels (independent and instructional) and develops, designs, implements, and evaluates effective math interventions for small groups and individuals with mild to severe learning problems related to literacy. The Math Interventionist is responsible for supporting student achievement in the area of Mathematics with special attention to Tier II and III instruction. Monitors student proficiency closely to assess the effectiveness of instructional strategies used with students, making appropriate adjustments to increase achievement. Collaborates effectively with colleagues and support staff in assessing, planning, adapting, and delivering math instruction. Reads and interprets research and exemplary practices in math, applying them to decisions about assessment, curriculum, instruction, material selection, and programs. Guides the evaluation and selection of instructional materials, including textbooks, trade books, materials for students with special needs, and appropriate technology. Participates in the design and implementation of the math intervention program, as well as early intervention, summer school, and after-school programs. Provides professional development support to classroom teachers and models best practice math strategies and instruction with students in all educational settings. Collaborates to support curricular goals, identify resources, build effective partnerships with community members, agencies, and universities, and design effective staff development activities in the area of mathematics. Maintains records of student referrals and identification, assessment and progress monitoring, and parent communication as required by program regulations. Facilitates home-school connection through communication, including individual conferences, written communications, parent in-services, or other meetings/events (seeks administrative support for childcare, translation services, etc., as appropriate). Plans purposeful tasks and assignments for instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s), contributing to job performance evaluations in cooperation with the building principal. Respects confidentiality and maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. Performs all assigned duties, serves on building or district committees and attends staff meetings as may be requested or as established by school policy. Adheres to the published policies and procedures of the district.
