To Be Determined Job Description Teach math with purpose in a small but mighty district. Somerset County Public Schools is recruiting high school mathematics educators for the 2026-2027 school year at both Crisfield and Washington Academy & High School, offering competitive salaries, a generous leave package, supportive leadership, modern instructional tools, and the benefits of a close-knit community—all aligned with Maryland's revised math standards. I. Position Summary Plans and provides evidence-based learning experiences for students in alignment with the Blueprint for Maryland's Future; provides an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, physical, and socio-emotional development of students; and implements instruction consistent with the goals and mission of Somerset County Public Schools (SCPS). The educator will foster conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and mathematical reasoning while implementing the Revised Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) and the MTSS Framework. II.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Curriculum & Instruction:
Delivers instruction according to the 2025-adopted Maryland College and Career Ready Standards (MCCRS) for Mathematics, focusing on the coherent progression of foundational numeracy and algebraic thinking.
Integrated Pathways:
Prepares students for the transition to the Integrated Algebra sequence and supports secondary math pathways (Quantitative Reasoning, Data/Statistical Reasoning, and Calculus). Tiered Support (MTSS): Implements a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for Mathematics to provide data-driven, responsive, and differentiated instruction for all learners, including those requiring intervention, enrichment, or acceleration.
Assessment & Accountability:
Incorporates formative and summative data, including results from the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP), into daily and long-term instructional planning to ensure students meet the College and Career Readiness (CCR) Standard by the end of 10th grade.
Numeracy Development:
Utilizes the MSDE Numeracy Development Framework to guide grade-level expectations and targeted interventions. 21st
Century Skills & Technology:
Integrates instructional technology and modeling tasks to develop 21st-century competencies, emphasizing reasoning, estimation, and real-world problem-solving.
Equity & Inclusion:
Eliminates exclusionary tracking by ensuring all students have equitable access to rigorous, grade-level content and personally meaningful advanced pathways.
Parental Engagement:
Provides required notifications regarding student numeracy progression and maintains ongoing, transparent communication with families as mandated by the PreK-12 Maryland Mathematics Policy.
Professional Growth:
Participates in the Maryland Effective Mathematics Educator course and other state-mandated professional learning focused on the revised standards and the Blueprint initiatives. III.
Qualifications Education and Experience Degree:
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited four-year college or university in Mathematics or Mathematics Education.
Performance Assessment:
Candidates seeking initial licensure after September 1, 2026, must provide evidence of a passing score on the edTPA or a state-approved pedagogical performance-based assessment.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Licensure:
Must hold or be eligible for a Maryland Initial Professional License (IPL) or Professional License (PL) with an endorsement in Secondary Mathematics (7-12).
Math Policy Compliance :
Completion of, or enrollment in, the Maryland Effective Mathematics Educator course (required for license renewal and alignment with 2025 Revised Standards).
Mathematical Skills Curriculum Mastery:
Deep conceptual knowledge of the Integrated Algebra 1 & 2 sequence (blending algebra, geometry, and statistics) and the ability to teach across secondary pathways, including:
Quantitative Reasoning Data and Statistical Reasoning Algebraic Foundations of Calculus Numeracy:
Ability to apply the MSDE Numeracy Development Framework to diagnose and remediate foundational gaps.
Computer and Digital Literacy Skills Maryland Digital Learning Standards :
Ability to implement the Maryland Digital Learning Standards for Educators, leveraging technology to personalize learning and foster "Computational Thinking" in students.
Instructional Tech:
Proficiency in modern LMS platforms (e.g., Canvas, Schoology), digital math tools (Desmos, GeoGebra), and data visualization software for tracking MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) progress.
Reasoning and Professional Ability Data-Informed Decision Making :
Ability to interpret Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) data to move students toward the College and Career Readiness (CCR) Standard by the end of 10th grade. Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL): Demonstrated ability to integrate inclusive, multicultural pedagogy that reflects the diverse student populations of Somerset County.
