QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with elementary certification. Minimum of four (4) years of successful teaching experience in grades PreK-3. Master's Degree in Reading and Literacy or Mathematics, preferred Completion of LETRS for Educators training. Completion of Literacy Essentials training. Completion of AVMR training. Completion of Thinking Maps training. Completion of DIAL-4 training Completion of Second Step training and demonstrated experience implementing Second Step lessons and practices in the classroom. Demonstrated expertise in evidence-based literacy instruction aligned to the Science of Reading. Strong understanding of Michigan's Early Literacy Law, Literacy Essentials, Mathematics Essentials, and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). Experience using and analyzing literacy and mathematics assessment data, including universal screeners, diagnostic assessments, progress monitoring tools, DIAL-4, and kindergarten readiness measures. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. SUMMARY The Early Elementary Literacy and Mathematics Coach is a non-evaluative instructional leader who partners with teachers to improve student achievement in literacy and mathematics. The coach supports implementation of evidence-based practices aligned with Michigan's Early Literacy Law, Literacy Essentials, Mathematics Essentials, MTSS, and district curriculum initiatives. Through job-embedded coaching, modeling, collaborative planning, data analysis, and professional learning, the coach strengthens Tier 1 instruction and intervention practices while building teacher capacity. The role also supports positive classroom culture and social-emotional learning to promote student engagement, self-regulation, and academic success. partners with
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Support the implementation of evidence-based literacy and mathematics instruction aligned to the Science of Reading, Michigan's Early Literacy Law, Literacy Essentials, Mathematics Essentials, district curriculum resources, and instructional initiatives. Provide job-embedded coaching, modeling, feedback, and professional learning to build teacher capacity in effective instructional, intervention, assessment, classroom management, and social-emotional learning practices. Support teachers in the analysis and instructional use of assessment data, including DIAL-4, AVMR, universal screeners, diagnostic assessments, and other measures to inform instruction, intervention, progress monitoring, and MTSS processes. Facilitate collaborative planning and data discussions focused on improving student achievement and meeting district and building improvement goals. Support the implementation of district initiatives, including LETRS, Literacy Essentials, Mathematics Essentials, Thinking Maps, CHAMPS, Second Step, and other instructional frameworks. Plan and facilitate professional learning opportunities that build teacher capacity in literacy instruction, curriculum implementation, assessment practices, and instructional best practices. Assist with onboarding and professional growth opportunities for teachers. Maintain confidential and professional relationships, accurate records, and required documentation while representing Port Huron Schools positively with students, families, staff, and community members. Grant funded program services supplement and support but do not supplant or replace the general education program of the school district.
