Mathematics Teacher (Short Term Leave Replacement) Durham Nativity School Durham, NC Job Details Contract $125 - $175 a day 1 day ago Qualifications Teamwork Experience teaching math Math Experience working with middle schoolers Critical thinking Student-centered approaches (student motivation techniques) Full Job Description About the Role We are seeking a passionate and innovative Short-Term Mathematics Teacher to join our dynamic team during a possible upcoming temporary leave of absence. This individual will deliver high-quality instruction across grades 5-8, maintaining our rigorous standards and engaging, hands-on learning environment. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of math content to spark critical thinking, along with the flexibility to seamlessly step in and keep our students on track for success in high school and beyond. Exact start and end dates for this coverage will be determined upon hire.
Key Responsibilities Curriculum & Instruction:
Deliver engaging, student-centered math instruction aligned with NCTM standards for grades 5-8 using existing curriculum plans. Execute project-based learning, differentiate instruction for diverse learners, and utilize data to inform support.
Student Support & Engagement:
Lead a student advisory group of 5 - 8 boys to provide academic, social, and emotional support. Attend morning assemblies and foster a positive, empowering classroom environment.
Community & School Life:
Participate in weekly community service outings, programmatic events (e.g., Back to School, Commencement), and supervisory duties (recess, lunch, study hall, shuttle driving, or exam proctoring as needed).
Collaboration:
Attend faculty meetings, PEP meetings, and work alongside colleagues to maintain integrated STEAM concepts. Qualifications Commitment to empowering, uplifting, and supporting young men from underserved backgrounds. Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field (Master's preferred). Teaching experience in middle school mathematics (grades 5-8) with strong classroom management skills. Knowledge of NCTM standards, project-based learning, and learner-centered pedagogy. Valid driver's license (ability to drive the school's 14-passenger van for trips is a plus). Compensation based on experience.
Pay:
$125.00 - $175.00 per day
