VGCS is an ideal environment for educators who value personalized learning, strong student relationships, and small-group instruction.

With all class sizes capped at a maximum of 16 students, teachers are able to provide targeted support through individualized instruction and meaningful student engagement. Our Downtown Providence location also allows students and staff to take advantage of experiential and mobile learning opportunities throughout the city.

Established in 2013, VGCS was the first school in Rhode Island intentionally designed as a personalized blended learning model. Students and teachers have endless opportunities to be creative and innovative in the development of new skills and learning experiences. VGCS serves students from across the state through the EnrollRI lottery system.

VGCS proudly maintains a 100% graduation rate and a 98% college acceptance rate. Through our highly successful dual enrollment program, students graduate having already earned 69 college credits.

VGCS utilizes the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum and values instructional practices that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and real-world application of mathematical concepts. VGCS is also highly SAT-focused, with an emphasis on data-driven instruction, SAT-aligned problem solving, and preparing students for college readiness and success beyond high school.

Responsibilities for
Math Teachers Include:
  • Create a positive, structured, and achievement-oriented learning environment that engages and motivates students
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum and provide supplemental instructional supports as needed
  • Integrate SAT-aligned instructional strategies, problem solving, and test-preparation skills into daily instruction
  • Utilize assessment and student performance data to personalize instruction and drive learning
  • Build strong partnerships with families to support students academic and personal growth
  • Design and implement engaging lesson plans aligned to standards and student needs
  • Collaborate with the Math department to develop instructional strategies and promote student achievement
  • Engage meaningfully in professional learning opportunities and collaborative planning
  • Maintain an organized lesson plan binder
  • Act ethically and with integrity while following all school and state policies
  • Believe in the ability of all students to succeed in college, career, and beyond.
