TITLE:
Mathematics Specialist Grades K-8 Location(s) to be determined
REPORTS TO
The person employed as a Mathematics Teacher will work with the building principal and the Administrator of in support of the approved program. The Mathematics Teacher will restrict services to eligible, participating students. The Mathematics Teacher may not be used in any capacity which is not approved, in advance, by the Director and is part of the approved program. Evaluation of the Mathematics Teacher will be conducted by the school principal with input from the Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS
The person employed as a Mathematics Teacher will possess the following qualifications. Priority will be given to applicants in the following order:
  • Masters Degree in Mathematics of Mathematics Education K-12 with valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate for appropriate grade level.
  • Valid West Virginia Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in the area of Mathematics for Early or Middle Childhood.
  • Experience teaching Mathematics preferred.
  • Experience teaching students preferred.
  • Any combination of training and experience which would lead to successful employment as a Mathematics Teacher.
  • Successful completion of the interview which includes the preparation and presentation of a lesson on a given topic.
  • Successful completion of the written exercise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION
The duties and responsibilities of the Mathematics Teacher will be to:
  • Provide professional support to the program, especially in the areas of diagnostic-prescriptive individualized planning for participating students; technical advice and assistance to teachers and parents of participating students; and selection, distribution and management of appropriate educational materials in cooperation with teachers and parents of participating students.
  • Participate in the creation of application for the school and maintain program fidelity with said proposal. Maintain and care for equipment and records. Eligibility and participation lists and other pertinent data will be made available and current in each site and copies will be sent to the Administrator upon request.
  • Plan instruction in cooperation with the classroom teacher maximizing in class time and minimizing pull out time.
  • Evaluate the progress of students on a regular basis and report the results to the classroom teacher and parents as directed by the Administrator.
  • Plan parent involvement activities for parents to participate in the teaching and learning of their children.
  • Plan and implement a program of study that includes extended time before and after school and during the summer to meet the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students under reasonable terms.
  • Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purpose outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  • Attend all meetings and mandatory workshops.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare for instruction and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the principal and/or the Administrator.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals. In harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individual or student groups involved.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, county policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for volunteer(s).
  • Maintain professional competence through in service education activities provided by Ohio County Schools and the Administrator and/or self selected professional growth activities.
  • Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning.
  • Serve on staff committees as required.
  • Utilize instructional management systems which increase student learning and maximize time on task.
  • Monitor student progress towards learning objectives.
  • Promote and maintain positive pupil-teacher-parent relationships.
  • Maintain professional work habits.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Principal, Administrator, Deputy Superintendent or Superintendent.
