Job Description

Lecturer Position - Applied Mathematics The Department of Applied Mathematics at the Naval Postgraduate School, in Monterey, California invites applications for a non-tenure term, part-time Lecturer; the amount of teaching will depend on the need of the department. The Mission of the Department of Applied Mathematics The Department of Applied Mathematics has a multifaceted mission to provide an exceptional mathematical education focused on the unique needs of NPS students, to conduct relevant research, and to provide service to the broader community. The department offers master's and doctoral degrees and encourages mathematical explorations in a broad range of areas in applied mathematics with specific thrust areas that support the mission of the school. Position Description We seek candidates who can teach a wide range of mathematics courses but mostly focused on calculus (course listings can be found at math.nps.edu as on-campus lectures focused on face-to- face deliver (but sometimes delivered virtually). Teaching load varies depending on enrollment and the department's needs. It is important that the successful candidate is able to teach in the summer quarter. Previous teaching experience at collegiate level is essential.
Minimum Qualifications:
U.S. citizenship is required . Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance. The successful candidate for this position must possess a master's degree or a PH.D. in mathematics or a closely related area, from an accredited university. Evidence of teaching aptitude (experience) and expertise in mathematics is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least two years of mathematics teaching experience at the college/ university level. Experience in using technology for face to face, hybrid, and DL teaching." Institution and Setting The Naval Postgraduate School ( www.nps.edu ) was established in 1909 and offers graduate programs at all levels for officers of the United States Armed Services, civilian employees of defense laboratories, and officers and civilians from allied nations. The NPS has approximately 1500 resident students enrolled in graduate degree programs, as well as non-resident students served by a distance-learning program. The Department of Applied Mathematics has 20 tenure track and non-tenure track faculty members and offers both Masters and PhD degrees. The park-like 144-acre campus is located on the Monterey Peninsula, adjacent to the waters of Monterey Bay and only minutes from the Monterey Regional Airport. The area offers a pristine environment of unparalleled scenic beauty, parks, restaurants, art galleries and cultural events. Other local research and educational institutions include the California State University at Monterey Bay, the University of California at Santa Cruz, Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey, the Defense Language Institute, Stanford University's Hopkins Marine Station, the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, the Naval Research Laboratory (Marine Meteorology Division), and Monterey Peninsula College.
