The Department of Statistics at the University of Michigan invites applications for a Lecturer I position in Statistics and Data Science, to begin August 25, 2026. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated colleague to teach a wide range of undergraduate statistics and data science courses, especially modern methods of applied statistics and hands-on data analysis, in an engaging and dynamic manner, to students studying statistics, data science, and other fields. This is a full-time, two-term appointment that has the possibility of renewal subject to departmental needs and satisfactory performance. The initial appointment is for the 2026-27 academic year, with the possibility of renewal. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate lab sections and/or undergraduate courses and/or graduate courses as an instructor of record, depending on departmental needs. A lecturer teaching lab sections for a large introductory course will also assist the instructional team with course-related activities in addition to teaching. The regular teaching load is three courses per semester, or the equivalent of 6 lab sections of the same course. Candidates should have at least a Master's degree in Statistics or a related field, with a Ph.D. strongly preferred. At least one year of college-level teaching experience or equivalent instructional experience is required. This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
