Anticipated Start Date:
August 23, 2026 The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Statistics beginning in fall 2026, preferably with an interest or focus on statistical foundations of data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning, theoretical statistics and probability, uncertainty quantification, or computational statistics. The appointment is for a fixed term, but renewable upon satisfactory performance and funding availability. Candidates should have finished their Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, machine learning, or a related field before their appointment start date. Successful candidates are expected to conduct research, collaborate with faculty members, and apply for external funding. An option for teaching classes in addition to the above responsibilities also exists. Qualifications Candidates in all areas of statistics and data science may apply. Our interests include but are not limited to high-dimensional statistics; Bayesian statistics; resampling techniques; digital twins; uncertainty quantification; foundations of machine learning and artificial intelligence; optimization theory and numerical optimization with applications to data science; statistical applications to biomedical problems and precision medicine.

Salary Range:
$55,000 - $68,000, commensurate with experience and job specifications. The above salary ranges represent the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
