Associate/Full Professor in Epidemiology, School of Public Health, University of Memphis The School of Public Health (SPH) at the University of Memphis (UofM) is seeking to hire a full-time, 9-month tenured Associate/Full Professor in Epidemiology to join our interdisciplinary, collaborative team of faculty. The successful candidate will be expected to teach both graduate and undergraduate students, enhance existing educational programs, develop an active research program, secure funding in promising areas of research, and foster collaborations within the school, university, and with external partners. The SPH at the UofM is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service. The SPH at the UofM was awarded the Harrison C. Spencer Award for Outstanding Community Service in 2024 by the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH). The CEPH accredited School of Public Health (https://www.memphis.edu/sph/contact/index.php) offers Master of Public Health degrees with concentrations in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Urban Health, and Social and Behavioral Sciences, as well as a Master of Science degree in Biostatistics and Master of Health Administration (MHA). The SPH also offers a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and PhD programs in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and in Social and Behavioral Sciences. In addition to these programs, we also offer Graduate Certificates in "Population Health Informatics" and "Health Analytics," as well as an undergraduate Minor in "Population Health Informatics." Duties and responsibilities:
- Demonstrated ability to sustain a funded research program in some of the following areas: epidemiology of chronic diseases, cardiovascular diseases, allergic diseases, mental health, genetics and epigenetics, and aging.
- Engage in interdisciplinary work, collaborating with faculty from public health, computer science, engineering, and related fields to advance SPH initiatives;
- Teach four (4) 3-credit hour courses (2 each semester) in areas of Epidemiology and related fields.
- Maintain an active research and publication agenda with peer-reviewed publications and extramural funding.
- Exhibit a passion for student mentoring and a commitment to participating in program development; and
- Have excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others.
Position Qualifications:
Candidates should have an earned doctoral degree in Epidemiology or in a closely related field and experience commensurate with the academic rank of Associate/Full Professor. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated teaching ability, established research trajectory, and will be required to advise, mentor, and guide students to prepare them for the workforce. This position will be based in Memphis, TN, with an anticipated start date of Summer 2026.
