Salary Range:
Up to $62,232 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications
Job Type:
Full Time Position Summary This is a 1-year (12-month) position, renewable for a second year, beginning August 1, 2026. This position will contribute to qualitative research projects that study mathematics teaching and learning in elementary bilingual classrooms. In these projects, teachers and researchers collaborate to: (1) elicit children's perspectives on their participation and language practices, and (2) use children's perspectives to develop mathematics classrooms that affirm all children's ways of participating and using language. The successful candidate will join a collaborative multidisciplinary team, including teachers and doctoral research assistants, working on: classroom-based participatory research with teachers and children; arts-based methods of analysis of children's and teachers' perspectives; multimodal and multisemiotic discourse analysis of videorecorded mathematics lessons and sample student work; and longitudinal analysis of multimodal classroom discourse. This position will provide up to $3,400 per year for research travel.
Responsibilities include:
Collaborating with faculty, doctoral research assistants, staff, and teachers on research projects. Conducting qualitative analyses of data, including discourse and arts-based analyses. Conducting longitudinal data analyses across timescales (a lesson, a unit, a year, and across years). Contributing to peer-reviewed publications, conference proposals, and grant writing. Leading the development of multimodal instructional materials. Mentoring graduate and undergraduate research assistants. Required Qualifications Ph.D. in mathematics education, bilingual education, or a related field, by the time of the appointment. Record of developing scholarly products in the areas of mathematics or bilingual education. Strong training and expertise in qualitative data generation and analysis. Demonstrated ability to understand, transcribe, and analyze qualitative data in English and Spanish. Experience working collaboratively with faculty, doctoral students, staff, and teachers. This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
