Mathematics Students Only No Job Description Summary SUMMARY :
The primary responsibility of this individual is to provide quality instruction to Western students enrolled in classes taught at the main campus in Rock Springs, or at an outreach center or high school in the Western Wyoming Community College district. Teaching a course over the Internet and/or teaching an evening course is also a common expectation. This individual must be able to relate to a wide variety of students in the community college environment. It is expected that this individual will accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective, competent manner and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. This individual will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS INDIVIDUAL IS ACCOUNTABLE 1.
Provides quality instruction to students in assigned courses including, but not limited to, developmental mathematics, pre-calculus, calculus sequence, and statistics. 2. States clear objectives and criteria in each course syllabus; follows the approved syllabus template; integrates appropriate Western Student Learning Goals into each course; evaluates students' performance in light of these objectives and criteria. 3. Teaches courses in a variety of environments and modes as required. Courses may be offered in the fall, spring or summer semesters and on varying schedules (i.e., 8- or 16-weeks), and may meet during the day, evening, or weekend in Rock Springs or at one of Western's outreach centers or may teach in online or HyFlex modality. 4. Designs and implements effective learning processes for students; provides feedback on student improvement in attaining the College's Learning Goals. 5. Learns to communicate clearly and effectively using the college network system, including the e-mail and calendar system, MyWestern, LMS , and word processing; integrates learning with technology into the classroom as appropriate. 6. Refers students to the resources in the Peer Tutor Center, Math Advancement Center, NetTutor, Wellbeing and Accessibility. 7. Maintains all assigned equipment and supplies in assigned areas; takes prudent efforts to safeguard Western's physical resources from unauthorized use. Maintains safe working conditions and practices. 8. Submits syllabi, student evaluations, grades, and other required information in a timely manner. Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
(Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities) 1. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics (to teach any level of mathematics courses) or a Master's degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Education with a Concentration in Mathematics, Mathematics Teaching, Mathematics Curriculum, or Statistics or Master's degree in any field with at least18 graduate level credit hours in Mathematics or Statistics (to teach college level mathematics courses through Trigonometry) or Bachelor's degree in any field, and satisfactory completion of Calculus I and Calculus II (to teach developmental mathematics courses). 2. Comprehensive knowledge of the concepts, technologies, principles and practices of mathematics. 3. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and administrators. 4. Ability to exercise sound judgment in all facets of the student-teacher relationship and to teach a diverse group of community college students. 5. Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills. Equivalency Statement For those who do not exactly meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be acceptable. Experience using active approaches to learning; experience using alternative methods of learning, such as interactive software, Internet, or individualized modular programs. 2. Demonstrated teaching excellence at a high school/community college/university.
