To apply, a candidate must have or be eligible to obtain a current Alaska Teacher Certificate issued by the Alaska Department of Education. Two years of experience with home school learning is preferred. Must be able to teach all levels of K-12 in multi-grade settings. Understanding appropriate learning activities for all grade levels of students is essential. Must be energetic and have a positive approach to learning activities and students. Must be flexible and organized, willing, and able to teach multiple grade levels. Experience with providing academic interventions and acceleration while monitoring student progress is desired. Effective communication skills, an understanding of the writing process and math concepts, and an ability to utilize technology are required. The ability to structure the educational program to positively meet individual student needs in all learning areas while managing group activities is necessary. A background in integrating technology into learning and current best practices is required. Requires a willingness to provide services in an online, blended format and provide remote services to students using various technology-based platforms. Must be willing to continue learning, collaborate successfully with colleagues, and pursue opportunities for additional training.JOB DESCRIPTION
The Advisor position is a job that demands a person with excellent organizational skills, communication skills, customer service skills, a positive outlook, and is comfortable in contacting families in a variety of situations. This advisor must be meticulous, thorough, concise, and flexible in dealing with various situations and people daily. Accuracy and detail are essential for documenting and accounting. Advisors are responsible for disseminating general program information and accurately communicating Nikolaevsk policies, procedures, and paperwork. The Advisor will perform parent/student intakes which include interviews and discussions regarding the student and program areas. Requires a willingness to teach in an online, blended format. Must maintain confidentiality, have great people skills, and be self-motivated and self-directed. Other duties as assigned. Will perform consultations on the student's educational program development, per grade level and content area, which includes, but is not limited to:- Identifying curriculum content standards
- Matching curriculum for student use
- Assisting parent-teachers to develop individual student learning plans
- Responsible for content and completeness of Instructional Learning Plans (ILP)
- Reviewing and evaluating student progress
- Developing instructional strategies with parents
- On-going instructional support
- Assist in determining content area evaluation and grades
- Maintain accounting for students' instructional expenditures
- Coordinating student's enrollment in courses, classes, and activities in attendance area schools
- On-going communication with students and parent-teachers
- Coordinate ordering of curricular materials
- Organizing and assisting with activities and events
- Must have excellent computer skills and be able to employ district computer programs to post grades and communicate with parents
- Must have teacher leader skills: self-motivated, self-directed, creative thinker and problem solver, teaching workshops to staff and families
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT
Must have a current Alaska Teacher Certificate issued by the Alaska Department of Education on/or before the first contract day. Teachers instructing students in grades K-3 must have or be willing to obtain the Alaska Reads Act Reading Endorsement, as required by state regulations.Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, and the general public.Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to apply current research and theoretical knowledge to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; oral and written communication skills. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.Physical Demands:
