Job Description

General PurposeTo plan, organize, and implement an appropriate mathematics instructional program in a technology-based learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

Responsibilities Create a classroom culture of high achievement and student ownership of their learning that helps foster students intellectual, social and emotional development. Provide daily instruction, including clear learning outcomes, well-designed lessons and high-quality assessments that align to (MS)2s curriculum and standards. Incorporate into lessons creative, hands-on learning experiences that broaden students exposure and interests, help foster student ingenuity and require application of knowledge and skills acquired through daily instruction. Provide a classroom environment that is visually appealing, rich with resources aligned to curriculum and standards and honors students achievement with current and accurate displays of exemplary student work. Communicate to students to understand their talents, interests and needs and to convey learning expectations and their progress toward meeting those expectations. Communicate regularly with families to identify students talents, interests and needs and update parents regarding students achievements and progress. Collaborate with school-based staff and throughout the (MS)2 community in staff meetings, regular analysis sessions and professional learning designed to enhance students learning experience and increase student achievement.

Qualifications Bachelors degree in mathematics or directly related field from an accredited university Excellent verbal and written communication skills Demonstrated mastery of middle-grade mathematics content One year of teaching experience in an urban school setting preferred Proven results demonstrating high student achievement and significant growth in mathematics Experience in teaching Algebra, and pre-algebra
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in mathematics Successful completion of the Praxis II Exam Evidence of ongoing professional development and/or continuing education Two years of teaching experience and results demonstrating high student achievement and significant growth Knowledge of relevant technology, or ability to be trained to efficiently use technology. Current authorization to work in the United States.
