FTE Middle School Math/Science Teacher Qualifications:
Valid Professional Educator License Middle School Endorsement in Science and Mathematics Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university

Performance Responsibilities:
Assess student progress towards targets and standards, providing feedback to students, parents, and administration. Communicate clearly and accurately with students and parents to provide constructive feedback. Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives. Deliver instruction to engage all students, adjusting lessons based on student progress to enhance academic and interpersonal skills. Design instructional materials that align with individual learning plans and state and district standards. Administer assessments to evaluate student competency and plan for instructional groups. Direct and support student teachers, instructional assistants, and volunteers to provide an effective classroom program. Maintain accurate and timely records to monitor student progress. Manage student behavior, classroom procedures, and physical space to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment. Reflect on teaching strategies and lesson effectiveness to improve student achievement. Respond to emergencies and report incidents to ensure student safety and compliance with policies. Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations, creating a conducive learning environment. Plan programs that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students. Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation as required. Encourage and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Use a variety of teaching methods and materials that suit the students' needs. Guide learning towards curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons and units. Foster a positive and inclusive school environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and a strong sense of community among students and staff. Collaborate effectively with colleagues to enhance the educational environment, demonstrating a positive attitude and a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive workplace culture. Implement the district's philosophy and goals, and adhere to policies and procedures. Regularly assess student accomplishments and provide progress reports. Collaborate in identifying and addressing the needs of students with specialized requirements. Take precautions to protect students, equipment, and facilities. Strive to maintain and improve professional competence. Attend faculty meetings, in-service sessions, and serve on committees as needed. Meet accepted criteria and standards of professional performance. Math-Specific Responsibilities Develop and deliver middle school mathematics curriculum aligned to Illinois Learning Standards and district curriculum frameworks. Design and implement engaging, standards-based lessons that promote conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and mathematical reasoning. Facilitate mathematical discourse and problem-solving using real-world applications and modeling tasks. Utilize data to inform instructional decisions and provide targeted intervention and enrichment. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs. Incorporate instructional technology and digital tools to enhance mathematical understanding. Foster a growth mindset and perseverance in problem-solving. Collaborate with grade-level and content teams to ensure curriculum alignment and consistency. Monitor student progress and communicate achievement to students and families. Science-Specific Responsibilities Develop and deliver middle school science curriculum aligned to Illinois Learning Standards and NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards). Design and implement inquiry-based, hands-on laboratory and investigation experiences. Promote scientific reasoning, experimentation, and evidence-based thinking. Integrate engineering design practices and real-world scientific applications into instruction. Ensure safe lab procedures and proper maintenance of classroom materials and equipment. Use formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction and student support. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs. Incorporate technology tools and digital simulations to enhance scientific understanding. Collaborate with grade-level and content teams to ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment.

Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 30% sitting, 20% walking, and 50% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy indoor environment with work inside about 90% of the time and work outside about 10% of the work schedule.
FLSA Status:
Exempt Salary Range:
Salary and benefits to be established in the Negotiated Agreement with the Board of Education. Commensurate with experience, however, the starting salary for the 2026-27 school year is $52,680.79 (salary will be prorated based on FTE).
Evaluation:
The Teacher will be evaluated following the provisions of the district's approved evaluation plan. District 48 is an EEOC employer
