Job Description
St. Vincent Pallotti is a coeducational, college preparatory school of 420 students with a diverse student body, located in the historical district of Laurel, MD. In 2021, Pallotti celebrated its 101st anniversary of providing Catholic education to Laurel and the surrounding regions. As a school, our strengths are our family-like atmosphere and our commitment to providing the widest possible array of curricular and extracurricular programs in a small school environment. We are looking for a knowledgeable and talented part-time Strings teacher to join Pallotti in the music program and our Arts Academy for the 2026-2027 school year. This position is for a skilled musician, preferably with a music education background, who can teach one section of strings and one section of beginning strings (violin, viola, cello and bass) to our students. The beginning strings class typically meets for 44 minutes each morning between 10:00am - 11:00am and the strings class typically meets for 44 minutes between 12:00pm-1:00pm depending on the school's daily schedule. Our current strings group is approximately 10 students of mixed ability levels and we anticipate approximately 4 students in the beginning strings class. There is the possibility of teaching approximately 2 or more private strings lessons each week (violin/viola). We are looking for a candidate interested in growing this program. This educator ensures that students engage in enjoyment, appreciation, understanding, creation, and performance of music through a variety of planned experiences and designated curriculum which could include listening, creating, performing, responding and connecting to and through music. This position may also involve leading semi-annual music-related field trips to BSO open rehearsals, NSO educational performances, etc.
Requirements:
Must be a proficient string musician. Must have a degree in Music or Music Education. Teaching experience preferred. Piano skills are also preferred, but not required. Ability to participate in several concerts/performances each school year. (December, March, late April, competition in early May) Outgoing and fun personality. Must be reliable, dependable, punctual and maintain the schedule as assigned. Must be willing and physically able to carry light weight (instruments). Applicants should have reliable transportation and reside in the DMV area as Pallotti is unable to assist with any relocation costs. This is a part-time, 10 month position, beginning in late August for the 2026-2027 school year. Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
