After school Teacher Aide Position Summary The Afterschool Teacher Aide assists with the supervision, safety, and engagement of school-age children during the afterschool program. The aide helps provide a structured but enjoyable environment that includes homework assistance, snacks, indoor and outdoor activities, games, enrichment opportunities, and positive social interaction. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Maintain active supervision of school-age children at all times. Assist with receiving children from school buses, vans, or designated pickup areas. Maintain accurate child counts during arrival, departure, and all transitions. Assist with snack distribution and cleanup. Provide homework assistance and encourage children to complete assignments. Lead and participate in games, crafts, STEM activities, outdoor play, group activities, and enrichment experiences. Engage with children rather than supervising from a distance. Promote respectful behavior, teamwork, responsibility, and appropriate peer interactions. Use positive behavior guidance and redirection. Help maintain an organized and structured afterschool schedule. Supervise playground, gym, classroom, and other activity areas. Monitor children carefully during transitions and high-activity periods. Maintain a clean and organized classroom and activity area. Ensure children clean up materials and personal belongings appropriately. Assist with cleaning and sanitizing tables, materials, toys, and common areas. Follow authorized pickup and child-release procedures. Immediately report injuries, incidents, behavioral concerns, or safety issues to the Lead Teacher or Director. Must be able to work effectively as part of a team and follow directions from the Lead Teacher and administration. Must complete required background checks and training. CPR and First Aid certification required or must be obtained within the timeframe established by the center. Physical Requirements Employee must be able to: Stand and walk for extended periods. Bend, kneel, and participate in activities with children. Participate in indoor and outdoor recreational activities. Respond quickly to emergencies and safety concerns. Personal cellphone use should not interfere with supervision or assigned responsibilities.
