POSITION SUMMARY
Museum Floor Associates play a key role in creating a welcoming, inviting context for play at the museum. This position interacts with families every day to create a playful, safe, and welcoming environment for all guests. Museum Floor Associates are responsible for the day-to-day operations at the museum, including greeting and orienting guests at admissions, maintaining a safe and clean environment, engaging guests in play, and facilitating daily programs. This is a non-exempt, part-time position that requires weekday and weekend availability.

Southern California Children's Museum is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that engages families and children ages 0-6 in play! We believe play is critical to children's growth and learning, and work to create and facilitate a collection of interactive, hands-on exhibits and experiences designed to engage the whole child, support developmentally appropriate learning, and invite all families to play together.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Guest Service. Welcome and orient guests, process admissions and memberships, answer questions, and provide museum information. Assist with parties, field trips, camps, and other special events (on-site and off-site) as-needed. Guest Engagement & Program Facilitation. Consistently circulate exhibits to seek out opportunities to interact with children and caregivers, encouraging play and exploration. Facilitate a range of programs that may include art, storytelling, music, and sensory exploration. Exhibit Care. Ensure exhibits are inviting and ready for play throughout the day. Monitor for safety and functionality, removing unsafe objects, broken props, replacing supplies. Regularly reset and restock exhibits to invite play, and communicate repair and replenishment needs. Cleaning. Regularly clean high-touch areas, bathrooms, and shared spaces, and contribute to deep cleaning toys and exhibits. Museum Collaboration. Engage in museum discussion and workshopping to provide feedback and ideas. Contribute to building a safe, engaged, welcoming, and accountable team. Additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Comfortable interacting with young children and families. Prior experience working with children or in a public-facing, guest service role preferred. Able to communicate well with visitors, be courteous and helpful, and respond calmly in emergencies. Possess attention to detail and a proactive attitude Confident being responsible for a broad variety of tasks Welcomes and respects all identities and cultures. Can stand and be active for up to 8 hours a day, and can lift up to 50 lbs. Bilingual preferred. Must be able to pass a background check. Available at least three full days (24 hours/week), including one weekend day required, occasional holidays and evenings.
