Job Description

Position Summary:
The incumbent in this position is responsible for ensuring that the Seminole Tribe of Florida's Tribal Historic Preservation Office (THPO) achieves and maintains the highest standard of collection care for the artifacts and archival items within its care. The individual is responsible for all aspects of collection management including cataloging, research, and preservation-related duties. This role also manages the Tribal Cemetery Plot Identification Program and supports NAGPRA-related consultation, compliance, and repatriation activities. The incumbent coordinates with Tribal, state, and federal partners on culturally sensitive issues and provides guidance to THPO leadership on policies and consultation practices.
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in History, anthropology or related field is required. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in supervising the curation of large archaeological collections is required. A minimum of two (2) years of experience with Native American Graves Protections and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) is highly preferred. Prior experience working with Tribal governments or conducting Tribal consultation is preferred. The incumbent must possess a valid Florida Driver's License. Demonstrate proficiency utilizing Microsoft software packages. Knowledge of Past Perfect museum software, Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS) and PowerBI is preferred. Demonstrate excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. The incumbent must be able to travel and work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
