About the Role The College of Visual Arts atRUA is seeking an experienced practicing artist and academic to join the faculty of Visual Arts at Associate or Full Professor level,supporting programmes and pathways that may include art history and theory (including Islamic and pre-Islamic art), traditional crafts andcontemporary art, photography and film, painting, digital arts, printmaking, sculpture and 3D making, and animation and moving image. This is a senior faculty appointment: an active studio practice, teaching, curriculum development, and student supervision form the coreof the role for the duration of the appointment. Academic leadership at RUA is organised on a rotational model: senior facultymembers (Associate and Full Professors) serve periodic terms as Programme Director for their programme, during which they receive 80%teaching release time and an additional academic leadership stipend, before rotating back to a full teaching and research load. ProgrammeDirector duty is therefore a recurring service responsibility of the senior faculty role, not a one-off promotion or a separate careertrack. Core Faculty Responsibilities (continuing) Maintain an active studiopractice, exhibiting or presenting work publicly on a regular basis Design, deliver, and continuously improve studio-based andcritique-led teaching within the BA in Visual Arts Ensure teaching approaches, course materials, and assessment methods supportapproved learning outcomes and academic regulations Contribute to curriculum development and enhancement for the BA in Visual Artsand related programmes Supervise undergraduate students' studio practice, coursework, and progression Contribute to a strongcreative and research culture within the College through exhibitions, publications, or professional practice Mentor junior facultyand contribute to academic development initiatives within the College Build relationships with cultural organisations, galleries,and external creative collaborators Contribute to interdisciplinary, practice-based learning initiatives across the College andUniversity Academic Leadership Responsibilities (as founding Programme Director, initial two-year term) Teaching and Learning Ensure that appropriate learning, teaching and assessment strategies, curriculum content andorganisation are employed for the programme of study and are communicated effectively to students. Propose and initiate improvementsin the currency and effectiveness of learning, teaching and assessment. Lead academic delivery, coordination, and continuousimprovement of the BA in Visual Arts, including performance against enrolment, retention, progression, and completionmetrics Represent the programme in interdisciplinary coordination with other Programme Directors and academic units Recruitment Ensure that the programme has an effective recruitment strategy aligned to College and University levelrequirements, and to undertake timely and effective recruitment activities as directed by the College Director, including liaising with theCollege/University Admissions Office. Ensure staff in the programme receive appropriate training and support in order to be able tocarry out recruitment activities to ensure that annual recruitment achieves target Staff Management With theCollege Director, be responsible for recruitment of staff into the programme, to manage and appraise their performance annually and tosupport staff to become more effective in their research, teaching and learning through personal and professionaldevelopment. Ensure that staff are actively engaged in research activity, supporting knowledge exchange andpartnerships. Support staff in the dissemination of high quality outputs from research and teaching and learning activity. Resource Management Contribute to the College's business planning and provide budget input, including monitoringday-to-day programme expenditure. Working with the administration and facilities teams, ensure efficient and effective use offacilities including workshops, studios, computing labs and libraries. Quality Assurance Lead annual reviewplanning and maintain audit-ready programme records. Ensure the programme's alignment with the College's systems for academicquality and standards assurance Ensure the programme achieves minimum threshold standards of student satisfaction. Managethe design and implementation of programme-level policies and procedures, and oversee day-to-day compliance Ensure programmestructures, schedules, and delivery requirements are in place each term, coordinating with faculty and enabling functions Ensure theaccuracy, reliability and consistency of any printed or electronically published information about the programme and its activities intendedfor the students, staff or public. Ideal Experience and Skills MFA (Master of FineArts) or equivalent terminal qualification in Visual Arts, Fine Art, or a related field; PhD an advantage but notrequired Appointable as either Associate Professor or Professor An active, exhibited studio practice with a substantial andongoing record of exhibitions, publications, or public presentation of work An established teaching record in visual arts or studioart at higher education level Experience contributing to curriculum development in an academic environment Strongunderstanding of contemporary visual arts practice and discourse Evidence of undergraduate student supervision andmentoring Prior experience of academic coordination, quality assurance, or programme leadership is an advantage Excellentcommunication and organisational skills International academic and/or professional experience preferred Compensation and Benefits The University offers a competitive, tax-free compensation package in the Kingdom of SaudiArabia.
