POSITION DESCRIPTION MUSEUM OPERATIONS MANAGER GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Museum Operations Manager collaborates with the Chief Operations Officer to deliver an inviting, dynamic, and memorable first impression for all visitors to the Foundation's museums and visitor centers. This role is essential to the successful daily operation of the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District's museums and visitor centers. The Museum Operation's Manager ensures that the district's museums and visitor centers attract a growing number of visits and generate ever increasing revenue through admissions, retail sales, and event rentals The position drives visitor education and enjoyment while generating revenue through effective facility management, volunteer recruitment and training, educational programming, event development, and initiatives that attract new audiences and increase attendance and sales.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Regular duties include the following (other duties may be assigned): Oversee daily operations of the museums, visitor centers, and retail sales, including customer service, point-of-sale transactions, and store performance. Recommend, develop, and implement visitor-service initiatives; monitor trends in the museum and historic-site industry and apply relevant improvements across the National Historic District. Recruit, train, schedule, mentor, and supervise visitor-services staff and volunteers; personally staff facilities as needed. Plan and execute special events and programs, including member events, group tours, field trips, and living-history demonstrations. Lead visitor data collection efforts; compile, analyze, and report on admissions and sales data to track revenue, attendance, and performance metrics. Design and implement programs and initiatives that expand the audience, increase admissions, and increase sales revenue. Conduct regular facility inspections to ensure museums and visitor centers are clean, safe, well-maintained, and fully prepared to serve guests. Identify and implement accommodations for visitors with special needs to ensure an inclusive and accessible experience. Explore and develop new revenue-generating opportunities, such as facility rentals, private events, and partnerships. Collaborate with the Chief Operations Officer to prepare, monitor, and manage the operational budget for the museum store and front-desk operations.

Solid knowledge of visitor-service principles, practices, and procedures, as well as supervisory and training methods. Strong organizational skills with the ability to initiate, manage, and successfully complete multiple projects simultaneously. Proven track record of meeting or exceeding performance targets and goals. Excellent verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and professionally. Strategic thinking ability and thorough understanding of strategic planning best practices. Strong partnership-building and event-planning skills. Demonstrated success motivating and managing volunteers.
