Job Title Visiting Instructor of Band Position Number TBD Salary Commensurate with experience FLSA Exempt Employment Status Full-time one-year appointment Appointment Type Full time, One-year appointment, non-tenure track General Description The University of Montevallo Department of Theatre and Music seeks a one-year Visiting Instructor of Band. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in instrumental music, including significant experience leading an instrumental ensemble. Other experience, including but not limited to, teaching applied lessons on the candidate's primary instrument, teaching classes in conducting, instrumentation and arranging, music theory, or other related areas are desirable. This is a one-year position, though we anticipate a search for a full-time, tenure-track position for Director of Bands to commence in the Fall. The successful candidate for this position would be eligible to apply for the full-time position. Essential Job Duties Participate in recruiting efforts for the music program Direct the university Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble each semester Teach other classes as needed, dependent on the successful candidate's qualifications. A background in music theory, music technology, and/or applied instruction is desirable Help coordinate the successful Montevallo Honor Band program in the Spring semester Additional Duties Education and Experience Masters degree in Music Evidence of success as a conductor of instrumental ensembles Preferred Education and Experience 3+ years K-12 teaching experience Evidence of success as a recruiter Terminal degree in Music Licenses, Certification or Registrations N/A Number of Vacancies Desired Start Date 08/15/2026 Open Date 04/10/2026 Close Date Open Until Filled Yes Special Instructions to Applicants Required Documents for
