Wornick Jewish Day School is a warm, welcoming, and vibrant TK-8th grade community school. We embody a collaborative team focused on bettering our school, supporting our students, and building relationships with our families. Wornick is seeking an outstanding TK-8 music teacher beginning the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate is an experienced educator who teaches music through song, instruments, composition, theory, and technology in a progressive educational environment, and who is excited to bring music to life across our school community - in the classroom, in celebrations, and on stage. Create, develop, and implement a TK-8 music curriculum that is consistent with the California music standards and reflects Wornick's mission and guiding principles, incorporating Jewish and Israeli culture, multi-language learning, and interdisciplinary themes Provide a foundational music education in TK-5 that is progressive and successive, so that each grade builds confidence and competence in musical literacy, practice, and presentation Develop and teach Middle School music electives, which may include learning and leading liturgical music for Tefillah services, exploring music from multiple cultures and genres, and creating music through songwriting and/or digital music platforms Design engaging lessons and units that support the base curriculum and meet the school's guiding principles, including Project-Based Learning, design thinking, and performance-based assessment Provide an instructional program based on the needs of each student, differentiating effectively for diverse learners Utilize multi-modal methods of instruction and learning to support the diverse ways students learn, using technology appropriately to advance learning goals Assess student learning to ensure grade-level standards are being met. Document student learning and report regularly on assessments and progress Provide appropriate and engaging individualized work for students in support of plans created with parents, tutors, aides, and specialists Lead and support music for weekly prayer gatherings (Havdallah, Tefillah, and Kabbalat Shabbat) and for school-wide holiday celebrations and special events Provide multiple performance opportunities for students to demonstrate their skills and practice musical leadership Provide music and sound tech support for school performances, celebrations, and presentations, and develop and train student sound tech coordinators Advise the Student Music Club, including rehearsals and performances Build and maintain the school's instrument inventory Work closely with teachers from other departments to support and complement integrated, interdisciplinary learning for all students Coordinate with the Jewish Studies and Hebrew department leaders to plan and implement celebrations and presentations Create and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues, and communicate regularly with families about the music program Attend all staff meetings, grade-level and professional learning meetings, and fulfill other duties assigned by the Assistant Head of School (recess duties, club supervision, etc.) Have 5+ years of classroom experience as a music teacher Have a Bachelor's degree in an education or music-related field (advanced degree preferred) Have a California Teaching Credential (preferred) Be skilled in teaching vocal and instrumental music, composition, music theory, and music technology Be familiar with progressive educational approaches (Project-Based Learning, student-centered classroom, flipped classroom, inquiry-based lessons, etc.) Have experience in lesson planning and curriculum design Have experience differentiating for diverse classroom learners Possess a love of learning and a passion for engaging students Be a collaborative team member who will seek advice from peers and rely on the professional expertise of our administrators and support services Have familiarity with live sound/performance technology (preferred) Have familiarity with Jewish liturgical music and Hebrew/Israeli songs (a plus) Have experience with digital music platforms (a plus) Have experience with Google Classroom, G Suite, and other LMS (a plus) Have a certificate in First Aid/CPR (a plus) Have experience with independent schools (a plus) Salary for this position is determined by years of experience and credentials.
