About Birch & Bay Music Studio Birch & Bay is a growing private music studio serving Newport Beach and surrounding Central Orange County communities. We are seeking friendly, dependable, and professional piano instructors who enjoy working with children and teaching students ranging from pre-reading beginners through early-intermediate levels. This position is ideal for undergraduate music students, emerging educators, or piano instructors seeking a supportive and structured teaching environment. Position Details Part-Time W-2 Employee Monday-Thursday afternoons and evenings Approximately 3-10 teaching hours per week initially, with opportunities for growth Students are generally scheduled within a defined geographic area to help minimize travel time Responsibilities Facilitate weekly private piano lessons in students' homes Create a positive, encouraging, and structured learning environment Support students in developing strong musical foundations, including rhythm, reading, technique, musicianship, and healthy practice habits Communicate professionally with families and the studio owner Track basic lesson notes and student progress Participate in brief weekly check-ins and professional development opportunities Qualifications Patient, dependable, and organized Comfortable working with children Strong communication and interpersonal skills Passionate about music education Piano proficiency equivalent to an advanced high school or collegiate level Previous teaching experience is welcome but not required. Familiarity with Piano Adventures, Wunderkeys, or similar beginner methods is a plus. Compensation & Benefits $28-$32 per taught hour, depending on experience Mileage reimbursement at the current IRS rate Flexible scheduling Paid training and onboarding support Curriculum guidance and mentorship Professional development opportunities Opportunities for increased compensation and expanded teaching responsibilities as the studio grows Additional Requirements Reliable transportation, professionalism, and adherence to studio policies are required.
