Hey y'all! Thanks for visiting our post! I'm Ellie, the owner of Singing Lessons NYC. We are a Manhattan-based vocal studio and have a location in San Diego - we're looking for a new teacher there in SD. We did have someone, but they moved back to NY and are teaching for us there, so we have a real need for a new San Diego person. You'll be teaching evidence-based vocal technique and vocal coaching to mostly adults, mostly CCM clientele (CCM means non-classical styles such as rock, pop, jazz, etc) . We are extremely diverse, Beginner through Advanced, amateur and pro singers. I know you're educated and especially if you've invested in your teaching by getting a pedagogical degree, so mainly I'm hands off as far as managing people w the vocal Ped degree ppl. A tiny bit less so with bachelors degree ppl, but no micromanaging. We have a great group of very diverse, friendly, collaborative, supportive, and highly skilled associate teachers that we hope you'll like associating with.
- If you do not have a Masters in vocal pedagogy, we can pay for one for you if you have a certain number of hours per week available for us. Some parts of the offer may differ if you are willing to do the Vocal Ped degree
- Ultimately, we have a need for fulltime (32+ hrs/wk), but part time would be okay.
We need ppl mainly on Saturday and one or more weekday afternoon/eve. We can get you 2 days in a row off so you get a full "weekend"
BENEFITS
Part time/full time:
- Paid sick leave
- Paid holidays when they fall on one of your teaching days
- Paid vacation. Two weeks to start, and doubling that every five years
- Take voice lessons with any other teachers works for us
- 4 free Alexander technique lessons Full Time (32hrs/wk):
- Medical insurance OR Student loan payback assistance, tax free
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be in San Diego right now (we have auditions)
- Planning to stay in San Diego area for at least two years
- Must have several years of teaching experience
- Prefer you to have at least a 2 year certificate or Masters degree in vocal pedagogy. We will start you at a higher rate if you have a doctorate in same. We're a bit more flexible on the vocal ped degree for the non-NYC studios
- If you do not have the pedagogy degree, we can bring you on if you're a good fit, hourly rate will be lower but we'll fund your Masters.
- No tough love, negative reinforcement, punishment, or taking out frustrations on the students
WHAT WE STAND FOR
This studio was founded on three tenets: 1. Treating teachers with respect. This includes paying a living wage that is tied to housing costs, offering exceptional pay and benefits, and giving some semblance of security in an insecure industry. Cost of living increases. 2. Treating clients with respect. This includes being kind to students, even when frustrated. It's pretty common for students to be abused in the course of their vocal training, and that is not helpful because it only serves to make them fearful of singing and break the trust. Exceptional results are achieved through positive enforcement 3. Offering some accessibility in pricing in addition to higher priced lessons.
