As a Band Teacher, you will be responsible for developing and leading a comprehensive band program that integrates Christian values and principles with musical instruction. You will inspire students to grow in musical excellence, discipline, teamwork, and worship while fostering a deeper understanding of faith through music.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement a band curriculum that aligns with the school's Christian values and educational standards while integrating biblical principles into music education. Teach instrumental music skills, music theory, rhythm, sight-reading, tone production, and performance techniques to students across various age groups and skill levels. Direct and conduct school band ensembles, rehearsals, performances, concerts, and special music presentations. Foster a supportive and engaging learning environment where students are encouraged to develop confidence, discipline, teamwork, and musical excellence. Incorporate worship music, hymns, and spiritually enriching pieces into the band program when appropriate, helping students connect faith and music. Assist students in developing proficiency on band instruments, including brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. Collaborate with faculty and administration to support school events, chapel services, concerts, fine arts programs, and community outreach opportunities. Provide constructive feedback and individualized support to help students grow musically and personally. Organize and oversee extracurricular band activities such as honor band participation, competitions, performances, pep band opportunities, and recitals as the program develops. Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and administrators regarding student progress, performances, expectations, and program needs. Maintain band equipment, music inventory, and rehearsal spaces in an organized and responsible manner. Stay informed on current trends and best practices in music and band education through professional development opportunities and continuing education. QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Instrumental Music, or a related field. Valid teaching certification or licensure with a focus in music education preferred. Strong understanding of Christian principles and a commitment to integrating faith into instruction. Experience teaching and directing band ensembles preferred. Proficiency in instrumental music instruction, conducting, and rehearsal techniques. Ability to teach foundational skills across a variety of band instruments. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate students. Prior teaching experience, preferably in a Christian school or similar educational setting, preferred. Ability to adapt instruction to accommodate students with diverse learning styles and abilities. Dedication to ongoing professional development and continuous improvement in music education. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to the overall mission and culture of the school.
