Full Job Description Dates:
August 26, 2026 Reports to: Director of Music Position Summary Nobles seeks an experienced middle and upper school music educator with an emphasis on experience leading string ensembles to begin in late August 2026. This is an opportunity to be part of a dynamic department whose members are passionate about teaching students with a wide range of musical abilities. We strive to inspire students to become lifelong musicians and value the growth and learning of all our students, regardless of previous experience and ability. In addition to being a dynamic conductor and ensemble leader, the ideal candidate will possess a breadth of musical knowledge and experiences that could lead to curricular development in the middle school general music classes, and/or in upper school performing arts offerings, such as music technology. The Nobles music department is a highly collaborative team with opportunities to co-direct ensembles on domestic and international tours every few years, with recent destinations including Germany, Austria, Colombia, New York City, Bermuda, and Montréal, Canada. This position may be full-time for the right candidate, with the option to be part-time. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Direct middle school string ensemble, Nobles Symphony Orchestra, and the honors chamber music ensemble Recruit and rehearse students to play in the pit orchestra for the annual upper school winter musical, write parts as necessary, and work on the production through closing and strike Option to teach one section of a middle or upper school general music class Attend faculty, department, and course team meetings, and production meetings for the musical Participate in one to two admission events per year Commit to ongoing growth in classroom practice and curricular development If a full-time position, duties would also include: Attending faculty meetings Contributing to the life of the school in at least one non-academic area Attending all school morning assemblies Supervising one study hall per cycle Completing two chaperone duties per year Candidates must be eligible to work in the U.S. To apply, please complete the online application and upload a resume at this link . Part time: $30,000 - $50,000 Full time: $60,000 - $100,000 Qualifications A bachelor's degree is required Minimum of three years of K-12 teaching experience Experience teaching instrumental, particularly string-focused ensembles, in a rigorous academic environment, preferably at the secondary school level A demonstrated interest in working with young people About Noble and Greenough School (Nobles) Nobles is a day and five-day boarding school for students in grades 7-12 in Dedham, Massachusetts.
