Job Description

Pingree School is a dynamic and aspirational, independent, all-gender day school on the North Shore of Boston, located on a beautiful 100-acre campus in South Hamilton, where approximately 385 students in grades 9 through 12 solve problems, build community, and learn how to learn. Committed to developing global citizens, Pingree actively seeks faculty, staff and students of character and intelligence from diverse social, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds. Pingree is currently seeking applicants for the position of Music Teacher in the Art Department. We are looking for versatile candidates to join the teaching team of a robust contemporary music program, and who desire to work collaboratively in a dynamic and collegial department of artist-teachers. The essential responsibilities of the position include: Teaching a minimum of three credits per trimester including: The vocal component of pop music ensemble classes Collaborating with an arts faculty team in a ninth grade arts survey course Interdisciplinary electives that explore the intersection of music with the humanities and sciences Participating in two seasons of our after school, co-curricular program, including: Serving as the Vocal Music Director for Pingree's Winter Musical Theater Production One additional season of coaching or equivalent activity. Serving as an advisor and participating in the life of the school community. We seek candidates who are passionate about and have experience with exploring social justice and civic engagement through the arts, and have a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusivity. Candidates should be vocalists with significant experience performing and teaching popular music, vocal ensembles, and musical theater. Piano skills as an accompanist, musical director, and/or in pop music settings are expectations of the role, and skills with other rhythm section instruments and/or as a singer-songwriter is a plus. We seek candidates who are well-versed in music technology (i.e. recording, production, and/or live sound reinforcement). The successful candidate will be deeply invested in a student-centered and process-intensive approach to music pedagogy, will have enthusiasm and appreciation for working with adolescents of a wide range of arts experience, and will desire to take imaginative risks and to innovate in their artistic work and their teaching. Candidates should be enthusiastic about exploring collaborative, experiential, and interdisciplinary teaching opportunities within the arts and across other disciplines. Potential candidates should have a degree in music education or an adjacent field, and experience teaching music to students at the secondary school level. Applicants should be familiar with recent scholarship in music as well as current teaching practices including the application of new methodologies and technologies in the classroom. The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $85,000 annually. An individual's placement within this range is based on work experience, education credentials, and cocurricular responsibilities.
