Position Summary Guilmette Middle School (grades 5-8) seeks a passionate, energetic, and student-centered Music Teacher who believes in the power of music to inspire, engage, and connect young adolescents. The ideal candidate will foster creativity, confidence, and self-expression while helping students develop musical knowledge, performance skills, and an appreciation for diverse musical traditions. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with middle school students, builds strong relationships, and creates a classroom culture where students feel safe to take risks, collaborate, and grow as musicians. The successful candidate will help build a vibrant music program that includes performances, concerts, ensembles, and other opportunities for students to showcase their talents and celebrate their learning. The successful candidate will possess a strong foundation in music pedagogy and a proven ability to establish and maintain an effective learning environment through strong classroom management practices. Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging music instruction aligned with the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Teach foundational music concepts, including rhythm, melody, harmony, notation, performance, composition, and music appreciation.
  • Create opportunities for students to perform, create, respond to, and connect with music.
  • Incorporate singing, movement, instruments, technology, and other creative approaches to engage diverse learners.
  • Foster student voice, collaboration, and academic discourse through music-making, performance, and reflection.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and students with varying levels of musical experience.
  • Assess student progress and provide meaningful feedback that supports musical growth and achievement.
  • Establish clear routines, high expectations, and a positive classroom culture that promotes engagement, belonging, and joyful learning.
  • Organize and support concerts, performances, and other events that showcase student learning and strengthen school community.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, families, and school staff to support student success.
  • Participate fully in school initiatives and professional learning opportunities. Qualifications
  • Massachusetts licensure in Music (or eligibility for licensure).
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with middle school students.
  • Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and equitable learning opportunities for all students.
  • Experience integrating technology into music instruction preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and community partners.
