Job Description
At Rob's Guitar School we are passionate about music! We teach guitar, ukulele, and other instruments to kids, teens and adults of all levels and styles in private lessons and in class settings. Sound interesting? Read on! We are looking for guitar/ukulele teachers experienced with kids (2-5 grade) to teach one or more of our Newton community education classes. Applicants must have tangible experience teaching children of these age rages. Having your own transportation is highly preferred but not required and we are looking for residents within a 20-30min drive of the Newton area. Classes are available all 5 days of the week and run from 3-4pm except for Wednesdays, which are 12:30-1:30pm. We need teachers to arrive at least 15min ahead of time to bring students to their classrooms and we also have an additional 15min added onto the final class for a low-key 'show-and-tell' performance with parents invited. Teachers are paid for these additional times. All in all, we'd need teachers to be available from roughly 12-2pm on Wednesdays and 2:30-4:30pm for classes on the other days of the week. We have nearly half the teaching slots filled (11 classes are currently open to enrollment, mix of ukulele and guitar). Each class typically has anywhere from 3-4 students, but on occasions extra students enroll, to which we add another teacher if available. It is also very helpful if teachers with a regular class are available on other days to sub if need be. So as of now, between regular classes and additional/substitute teaching there are plenty of opportunities to go around. If things go well, there may be additional opportunities for adult CE classes, either in Needham or Newton, as well as subbing or even teaching private students.
Community Education programs:
- The Newton Community Education after-school classes run during the fall, winter, and spring months.
- Needham Community Education adult beginner guitar classes (max of 4 students per class). These adult beginner guitar classes run year-round at schools in Needham. These are hour-long classes that start as early as 6 pm or as late as 7:30pm. We are looking for instructors who:
- Are positive, upbeat and professional and work well with both adults and kids ages 6 and up
- Have access to reliable transportation.
- Live in close proximity to the Newton Upper Falls area
- Have at least 2 years' teaching experience (preferred).
- Can teach guitar and ukulele at the beginner level for Community Education classes.
NOTE:
If you don't know how to play the ukulele, we'll show you. It's a very easy instrument to play that is very similar to the guitar.- For private lessons, teachers with intermediate and advanced teaching capabilities are preferred. The ability to teach beginner/intermediate bass or drums is also a plus but not required.
- We run a CORI check on all teachersIf this sounds like a good fit for you, please reply with a resume and cover letter.
