Job Description
The L.D. Batchelder Elementary School is seeking a General Music & Chorus Teacher Long-Term Substitute tentatively from the start of the 2026-2027 school year through October 22, 2026. North Reading Public Schools is actively looking to build a diverse workforce to ensure all students feel welcome, safe, and valued for who they are and supported to reach their potential.
In this role you will be responsible for delivering high-quality vocal and general music instruction to students in grades K-5, with a focus on chorus instruction for grades 4-5. This role involves designing and implementing a dynamic music curriculum that fosters foundational skills, music literacy, vocal technique, and a lifelong appreciation for music. The educator collaborates with school leadership, Performing Arts staff, and families to create meaningful musical experiences that support students' artistic, social, and emotional development.
North Reading Public School Educators first contractual day is September 1, 2026. New educators serving as long-term substitutes may be required to attend the two day new staff orientation on dates still to be determined.
Essential duties
Develop and implement a comprehensive music program tailored to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students in grades K-5
Provide engaging chorus instruction for grades 4-5, including small group and large ensemble settings, emphasizing sight-reading, music literacy, and vocal care
Foster connections with the broader community to enhance students' musical experiences and opportunities
Prepare and direct students for school concerts and performances, ensuring high-quality presentations
Collaborate with Performing Arts Department staff to coordinate and execute successful performances and events
Maintain accurate and timely records of student progress and achievement
Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student performance and program updates
Integrate principles of social-emotional learning and child development to support holistic student growth
Perform additional duties as assigned by the District Administration, school Principal, or Designee
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field
Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in Music:
Vocal/Instrumental/General, All Grade Levels
Demonstrated experience in vocal instruction and general music education for elementary-aged students
Strong knowledge of music theory, sight-reading, and vocal pedagogy
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, families, and community members
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment
Understanding of child development and social-emotional learning principles
Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
