NHS Marching Band Percussion Instructor (Job # 3621)

Northern High School
JOB SUMMARY
The marching band percussion instructor is the representative of the principal to ensure that the marching band has a reflective representation of the school community. The percussion instructor will work with the administration, band director, students, and adjudicators to assure a successful experience for students and successful public performances. These efforts can be accomplished through band camp, after-school rehearsals, weekend events, and performance events. Percussion instructors shall enforce and adhere to the policies, rules, and guidelines of the Board of Education, the school, the Maryland Music Educators Association and the Tournament of Bands Association.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrated management, leadership and human relations skills Ability to exercise good judgment in making decisions Proven ability to carry an assignment to its completion Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to the duties and responsibilities listed below Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend the rehearsals, band camps, and performances, actively participating in assisting students in sectional and whole group rehearsals. Teach drum line basics (Marching techniques and stick work) Choreograph and teach the routine for the show. Assign equipment responsibilities and assign equipment to students. Work with the pit to teach and assist with the memorization of music. Work with the drill writer to check the positioning of the drum line and pit in each musical selection. Teach the pit members the appropriate times for changes in the equipment. Choreograph sticking and drum line movement to match the drill. Assist in teaching the drill for the show. Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Band Director that will provide for a successful program.

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current year Extra Pay for Extra Duty Longevity Pay Schedule.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the policy on evaluation as established by the Calvert County Public Schools.
