Job Description We are currently seeking a gifted individual who has a passion for teaching music to young people within the context of developing God-given talents to inspire, instruct, and form intentional disciples of Christ. The band director is responsible for the continued development of the instrumental music programs at FGR, building upon the already exceptional reputation while pursuing new opportunities to develop students' talents and attract additional students with musical interests. Responsibilities Lead and direct the further development of the FGR Band Program which includes but is not limited to: Preparing musicians for performances such as: Concerts Competitions Open Houses Sporting Events Donor parties Elementary & Middle School Engagements Auctions Event nights Summer performances Funerals Evening practices and performances Teach Band class and oversee development of: Pep Band Pit musicians for musicals
Planning and Preparation:
to plan in advance for daily lesson presentations, lesson plans shall be kept up-to-date and will contain logically sequenced objectives based on adopted curriculum. Plans will be submitted according to school policies and will utilize best practices in education.
Instruction:
to provide a classroom learning situation which adheres to the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of FGR.
Student Control and Discipline:
to be responsible for the order, attention, and well-being of students under your care in the classroom setting.
Recording and Reporting:
to keep daily written records and enter attendance in FGR's online system and building requirements as they pertain to matter of record keeping. To meet with parents in regularly scheduled conferences and/or whenever necessary to report individual pupil progress.
Co-Curricular Participation:
to participate on a voluntary basis in planning for and supervising co-curricular student activities and functions approved by the school.
Professional Development:
to show evidence of continuous growth in the teaching profession. Work collaboratively with the instructional leader and members of the Fine/Performing Arts Department. Required Skills and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and JQ Certification or equivalent; M.A. in Music Education, Education, or a related field preferred. Minimum of two years' experience teaching music at the high school level preferred. Minimum of two years' experience directing a band at the high school level preferred. Proven ability to manage a classroom of 20+ students. Skilled at developing and delivering lesson plans that engage students and lead to high academic achievement. Passionate about forming intentional disciples of Jesus Christ.
