Position Summary:
Marian High School is seeking a part-time Vocal Arts / Choir teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The teacher will lead Marian's vocal music program, including a co-ed Honors Choir class in partnership with Brother Rice High School, one semester of AP Music Theory, Liturgical Choir, and Marian's advanced audition-based choir. The ideal candidate will bring strong musical expertise, an engaging presence, and a genuine love for working with high school students. Responsibilities include teaching vocal music in the morning, preparing students for performances and competitions, and supporting music ministry for school liturgies.
The position includes:
Two semesters of Co-ed Honors Choir class (including performances and competitions) One semester of AP Music Theory Liturgical Choir (including one after-school rehearsal per week and music ministry for all school Masses) Advanced Audition Choir (including two after-school rehearsals per week, competitions, and performances) Collaboration with Marian's Performing Arts team to continue building a dynamic, student-centered vocal arts program This role will be a great fit for a teacher excited to bring new energy, ideas, and enthusiasm to a growing performing arts program, while helping students develop their musical gifts, confidence, discipline, and joy in performance.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree, with a Michigan teaching certificate and appropriate endorsement to teach high school vocal music/choir preferred. •Opportunity may exist to make this role full-time for a right-fit, diversely-certified candidate.
Ideal candidates will have:
At least two years of experience teaching high school choir Experience directing vocal ensembles and preparing students for public performances Knowledge of vocal pedagogy, music theory, repertoire selection, and performance preparation Comfort supporting sacred music and Catholic school liturgies Strong classroom management and student relationship-building skills An engaging, positive, and collaborative teaching style A desire to contribute creatively to Marian's growing Performing Arts program
