Located in Harper Woods, Michigan, our Pre-K through 12 charter district provides a supportive environment where students thrive socially, academically, and creatively. We value every team member's contribution to student success and community growth. Chandler Park Academy is seeking a certified Orchestra Teacher to strengthen its instrumental music program, with a focus on middle and high school students. You will teach beginning and advanced orchestra, develop students' instrumental technique, scales, sight-reading, and music theory, and assist with the district's bands. Through engaging instruction and high expectations, you will help students build musical skills, confidence, and an appreciation for music.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and a valid Michigan teaching certificate with a Music Education (JQ) or Music (JX) endorsement appropriate for the assigned subjects and grade levels. Demonstrated competency in strings, winds, and percussion pedagogy. Strong skills in planning, delivering, and assessing instruction using research-based strategies. Ability to use technology to support music instruction. A commitment to the belief that all students can succeed and to providing the support needed for their success. Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills. Key Responsibilities Teach beginning and advanced orchestra and assist with band instruction, including instrumental technique, scales, sight-reading, and music theory. Prepare and deliver lessons aligned with Michigan content standards and district curriculum to help students meet or exceed proficiency standards; provide evidence of preparation when requested by school administration. Use research-based instructional strategies, materials, and technology suited to students' abilities, learning needs, and physical limitations. Assess student progress regularly, provide feedback, adjust instruction, and refer students for additional assistance when needed. Encourage students to set and maintain high standards while supporting CPA's educational philosophy and instructional goals. Maintain school-owned instrument inventory, the music library, and required instructional and administrative records. Participate in ongoing professional development, collaborate with colleagues and school leaders, and consistently uphold school policies and procedures.
