Job Description

School of Art, Music, and Performance Jones College Position Summary The School of Art, Music, and Performance at Jones College seeks a qualified Adjunct Instructor of Music (Low Brass) to provide applied instruction for music majors and non-music majors. This part-time faculty member will teach individual lessons in low brass instruments and may direct small chamber ensembles related to the low brass area. The adjunct instructor will contribute to the artistic and educational mission of the music program by providing high-quality instruction and mentorship to students pursuing music studies at a two-year college. Primary Responsibilities Teach applied low brass lessons (such as trombone, euphonium, and tuba) to music majors and qualified non-music majors. Prepare students for recitals, juries, auditions, and ensemble participation. Assist students in developing appropriate technique, repertoire, musicianship, and performance skills. When assigned, direct or coach small low brass ensembles (such as trombone ensemble, tuba/euphonium ensemble, or chamber groups). Evaluate student progress and provide grades according to college policies and academic calendars. Maintain regular communication with the music faculty regarding student progress and program needs. Encourage student recruitment and retention within the music program when appropriate. Participate in music program performances, juries, or other departmental activities as needed. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in Music (Performance or related field) with specialization in Low Brass. Preferred Qualifications Doctorate in Music (DMA, PhD, or equivalent) in Performance or a closely related field. Previous collegiate teaching experience, particularly in applied lessons. Demonstrated success as a performer and educator. Experience working with students at the community college or undergraduate level. Reporting Structure This position reports to the Director of Bands. Appointment Type Part-time, Adjunct Faculty. Teaching assignments and compensation are determined on a per-semester basis according to enrollment and program needs.
