Camp MusArt is looking for a playful, dependable Piano and Music Teacher to lead creative group classes for children ages 5-12 at our arts camp in Apex, NC. This is not a traditional piano studio or music-theory position . Our campers rotate through fun, hands-on arts classes throughout the day. Piano class should feel like part of camp—not a lecture, conservatory course, or series of private lessons. We need someone who can use piano, rhythm, musical games, movement, improvisation, popular songs, challenges, and creative activities to keep a group of children engaged. Formal training is welcome, but your ability to connect with children and make music exciting matters more than an advanced degree. What You Might Do in Class Teach a recognizable song or catchy melody Create rhythm games, musical challenges, or friendly team competitions Let campers experiment with composing or improvising Use movement, percussion, singing, or ukulele alongside piano Help beginners play something they can feel proud of Prepare a simple performance or recording to share with families Change direction when an activity is not holding the group's attention Make sure every camper participates, regardless of musical experience We are not expecting formal recitals or intensive theory lessons. We want children to leave class saying, "That was fun—I want to do that again!" What We're Looking For The right teacher is: Energetic, warm, playful, and comfortable being a little silly Confident leading a group of children—not only one-on-one lessons Able to maintain structure without making class feel strict or boring Creative enough to fill a class with varied, age-appropriate activities Comfortable teaching mixed ages, abilities, and attention spans Flexible when a planned activity needs to be changed Reliable, prepared, and able to work independently Genuinely excited about working with elementary-age children Required Qualifications Experience working with children ages 5-12 Experience teaching music, piano, or another creative subject Experience independently managing groups of children Sufficient piano ability to confidently teach beginners Reliable weekday availability Dependable transportation to our Apex location Ability to pass a background check Bonus Skills We would especially love to hear from applicants who can also teach: Various string instruments (ukulele, guitar, violin, cello, etc.) Singing or karaoke Percussion and rhythm Songwriting or improvisation Music-and-movement activities Theater, dance, games, crafts, or another camp-friendly subject Position Details Part-time, in-person position Weekday hours (Camp is open 9-5) Year-round and Wake County track-out availability preferred Campers are ages 5-12 Located at Camp MusArt in Apex, NC Starting pay: $18 per hour, based on experience To Apply Please submit your résumé and answer the following questions: What experience do you have independently teaching or supervising groups of children ages 5-12?
