Job Description

Established in 1887 as a school for the education of American Indians, The University of North Carolina at Pembroke serves a distinctly diverse student body and encourages inclusion and appreciation of the values of all people. Located in the heart of Pembroke, N.C., UNCP boasts an enrollment of 8,200 in 41 undergraduate and 18 graduate programs and offers a personalized learning environment where faculty and staff are dedicated to engaged scholarship, high academic standards, creative activity and public service. The University of North Carolina at Pembroke invites applications for an Adjunct Instructor of Music Industry. This position has an anticipated start date of August 2026 and is renewable on a semester-by-semester basis. The successful candidate will direct the University's Commercial Music Ensemble, a 10-15 member group that currently performs 2-3 times each semester both on and off-campus. The ensemble performs contemporary music with a focus on popular music. This position has additional teaching opportunities in songwriting, applied private instruction, and general education music courses depending on qualifications and program needs. The Music Industry Program at UNCP is a rigorous professional degree that offers three tracks for students pursuing careers in the music industry. Students can choose from the Classical, Jazz, or Songwriting tracks, all of which include coursework in Music Technology, Business, and Digital Content Creation. Excellence in teaching and learning conducted within a rigorous and stimulating environment is an important core value of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The Music Department has a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and part-time faculty are expected to maintain department and university standards. The successful candidate must hold a Master's Degree in Music Industry or a closely related field (significant professional experience will be considered in lieu of a Master's Degree).

Minimum Training and Experience Requirements :
Master's Degree in Music Industry or a closely related field (significant professional experience will be considered in lieu of a Master's Degree).
Desired Qualifications :
Ability to teach applied contemporary guitar. Songwriting experience evidenced by performances and album releases. Experience using the Canvas learning management system (or similar).
