187 days per year. Prob/Term-Teacher employment agreement. Salary is in the Teacher Salary Schedule on the SAISD Compensation Plan as applicable with additional consideration for directly related experience.
Funding Source:
This position is locally funded. Supplemental band duties require additional days beyond the teacher contract in accordance with District and Fine Arts Department requirements. Additional annual supplement of $15,000 for High School Band Program responsibilities. Position Summary Plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive 5A band program that provides students with activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, musical, physical, and social growth. Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities 1. Design and implement successful teaching strategies for the band program; participate in all District sponsored band events. 2. Direct instrumental performers such as marching, jazz, concert band, soloists, and ensembles which successfully participates in UIL competitions, State, Solo, & Ensemble concerts, and community functions. 3. Assist with planning and implementation of the school music program. 4. Actively coordinate the efforts of the band booster organization. 5. Maintain accurate band equipment and uniform inventory. Responsible for the maintenance and cleaning schedule of equipment and uniforms. 6. Maintain the music library. 7. Actively participate in professional development activities. Attend all
UIL/TMEA
Region meetings, clinics, and concerts. 8. Actively participate in professional organizations which foster and support music education. 9. Perform other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities expected for this position.
Minimum Requirements Supplemental Pay:
Based on Available Funds Bachelor's degree in music education from an accredited college or university or 4 years equivalent experience. Valid Secondary or All-level Music Teaching certificate. 5+ years of experience as Band Director Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Expertise in music curriculum and instructional methods, leading to the preparation of advanced band literature to an exemplary level of performance. Knowledge of technology (MIDI applications, Smart Music, Finale, Sibelius). Skill in the use of technology and knowledge of appropriate software for half -time show design and UIL competition. Demonstrated evidence of responsibility, competence, enthusiasm, and imagination. Demonstrated ability to foster cooperation and establish a professional relationship with other staff members. Demonstrated success in promoting positive public relations within the community . Demonstrated success in recruiting and retaining students in the program. Demonstrated success in motivating students to excel. Demonstrates ability to direct the work of the assistant band director in the implementation of a successful band program. Ability to manage budget and personnel. Knowledge of state, UIL, and TMEA policies governing band activities. Demonstrated success as a band director.
