Job Description

Part-Time Position:
Theology/Philosophy Teacher Expected Start Date:
August 2026 La Lumiere School is excited to welcome applications for the part-time position of Biblical Literacy Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The Theology and Philosophy department is dedicated to introducing students to and cultivating them in the intellectual and practical aspects of religious belief and philosophical reflection. This is accomplished by training them to engage critically and charitably with a wide array of religious and philosophical views on reality, ethics, God, and human nature. Our Theology/Philosophy teachers guide students through substantive engagement with Scripture, theology, and the broader Christian intellectual tradition. Students encounter primary religious texts alongside works of theology and philosophy, write and discuss ideas carefully, and develop the habits of mind necessary for serious reflection on faith and human experience. For this position, we are seeking a teacher who is comfortable working with high school students in discussion-centered, text-driven courses. The likely teaching assignment will include 2-3 sections of Biblical Literacy. The ideal candidate will bring theological knowledge, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to create a classroom environment where students wrestle honestly and charitably with questions about God, faith, reality, and what it means to live well. We are especially interested in candidates who can guide students through close reading of primary texts, facilitate rigorous and respectful dialogue across diverse viewpoints, and help students develop their own capacity for moral and theological reasoning. Primary Responsibilities Teach 2-3 sections of Biblical Literacy courses each semester Contribute to the intellectual life of the Theology and Philosophy department Desired Qualifications Bachelor's degree in theology, religious studies, philosophy, or a related field (master's degree preferred) Familiarity with both Old and New Testament and the broader Christian theological tradition Ability to engage students critically and charitably with diverse religious and philosophical perspectives Comfort with discussion-based, seminar-style teaching Application Details Faculty compensation packages are competitive and commensurate with experience. Ten-month appointment (August through May). Reports to the Director of Academics and Student Life. Please submit a résumé, cover letter, and a list of three-five references to Duncan Webb, Director of Academics and Student Life, dwebb@lalumiere.org . References will only be contacted after permission is granted by candidates.
