Job Description
Position Overview The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Kansas invites qualified scholars and professionals to submit applications, which will be reviewed by the faculty and placed in a pool to be considered for part-time to full- time teaching positions as needed. Lecturers are non-tenure-track members of the faculty. Appointments are typically short in duration over a defined time period associated with the development and/or instruction of course(s). Primary role is instruction with no obligations to perform research or service. The appointment dates will vary based on the timeframe for the preparation and instruction of the course(s). Generally the appointments will be temporary. Application materials will be reviewed and placed in a pool for consideration for developing and/or teaching undergraduate courses in Religious Studies consistent with departmental instructional needs. The successful candidate must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins. Job Description Teach a specified number of either undergraduate courses per semester. Courses may be undergraduate or graduate level and may be taught face-to-face, hybrid or online. 100% -
Lecturer Duties:
Depending on the need, teach course in designated area: Prepare for and attend all class meetings. In case of absence, the lecturer must make arrangements for a substitute to teach class. Classes should not be canceled. Provide instruction throughout the semester, usually 3 hours/week. Develop assignments, administer tests, evaluate student work, provide feedback to students, and assign grades. Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught. Adhere to departmental, College, and university policies. Required Qualifications Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from professional references: Required Qualifications forUndergraduate Courses:
MA in Religious Studies or equivalent area, College teaching experience, evidence of teaching competence (e.g., course evaluations; supervisor ratings). Required Qualifications forGraduate Courses:
Ph.D. or terminal degree in Religious Studies. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience teaching the course of interest. Additional Candidate Instructions A complete application will include:- A letter of application indicating what position you are applying for in the Cover Letter.
