Physical Education & Sports Responsibilities Plan and lead developmentally appropriate PE and movement experiences for children ages 18 months through sixth grade. Introduce children to a wide variety of sports, games, and physical activities, including foundational skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, kicking, balancing, coordination, and spatial awareness. Provide opportunities for children to develop physical competence, confidence, cooperation, concentration, and enjoyment of movement. Introduce age-appropriate sports skills and rules while emphasizing participation, sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect. Provide appropriate opportunities for children to practice and develop skills through repetition, purposeful movement, and play. Create an inclusive environment in which children of different ages, abilities, and levels of experience can participate successfully. Incorporate Montessori principles, including respect for the child, freedom within appropriate limits, independence, purposeful activity, and preparation of the environment. Continue professional development through AMI Montessori Sports training and other appropriate professional learning. Collaborate with classroom teachers and administration to support children's physical, social, and developmental needs. Elementary Playground & Outdoor Environment Prepare and maintain a safe, orderly, engaging, and developmentally appropriate Elementary playground environment. Work within a budget to select, organize, and make available appropriate outdoor equipment such as balls, jump ropes, hoops, and other movement materials. Maintain clear written playground expectations and procedures for both children and adults. Regularly inspect playground equipment and communicate repair, replacement, or safety needs to administration. Supervise Elementary students during outdoor play and recess, with particular attention to safety, respectful interactions, and appropriate equipment use. Facilitate training for MIR staff in playground expectations, equipment use, supervision practices, and safety procedures. Collaborate with staff and administration to continually evaluate and improve the outdoor environment. Maintain accurate documentation of playground incidents, accidents, equipment concerns, and other safety issues as needed. After-School Childcare Support the MIR after-school childcare program and supervise children in a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment. Plan and lead developmentally appropriate outdoor activities, games, and movement experiences. Partner with childcare staff to maintain consistent expectations, routines, and supervision. Assist with daily snack preparation and service, including purchasing food and maintaining appropriate food supplies. Communicate with childcare staff and administration regarding student needs, safety concerns, and program needs. Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming childcare environment. Safety & Supervision Maintain active, attentive supervision of children at all times. Follow MIR safety policies, emergency procedures, and playground expectations. Use sound judgment regarding children's physical safety and well-being. Respond appropriately to injuries, conflicts, and other incidents and complete required documentation. Maintain appropriate boundaries and professional conduct with all students. Communicate promptly with administration regarding significant safety concerns or incidents.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

Experience working with children in a school, recreation, sports, childcare, or similar setting. Demonstrated ability to lead groups of children safely and positively. Strong knowledge of fundamental movement skills and/or sports. Ability to create engaging, developmentally appropriate physical activities for children from toddler through elementary age. Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills. Commitment to Montessori principles and respect for children. Ability to actively supervise and participate in physical activities with children. Ability to obtain and maintain required CPR/First Aid certification and other required school certifications.

Preferred:

Experience working in a Montessori environment. Montessori Sports training or experience with AMI Montessori Sports. Bachelor's degree in physical education, kinesiology, child development, education, recreation, or a related field. Experience introducing young children to sports and movement. Experience developing playground or recreation programs.

Professional Development Expectation:

MIR will support the selected candidate in completing AMI Montessori Sports training. The successful candidate will be expected to apply the principles and practices learned through this training to the development of MIR's physical education and sports program. General behavior expectations Maintain a professional, neat, and clean appearance and a professional and positive attitude with families, children, and staff. Be punctual and present during your regularly scheduled hours and all other hours as assigned. Maintain required professional qualifications, including: continuing education on child development and/or Montessori practice current CPR/First Aid certification current TB testing results current Mandated Reporter training current Anti-harassment training Days/Hours of work Be present during your on-site hours as outlined in your employment agreement for the designated school year or as outlined in the School Calendar. Be present from 8:30am to 5:00pm during all school in-service days in August, June and as scheduled throughout the year. Attend all MIR teacher meetings as well as whole staff meetings. Attend parent nights and community events to which you are assigned.
