K-5 Students in Health Education Function / Position Summary Elgin U-46 Elementary Health Educators are responsible for educating students about various aspects of health and wellness. The position requires a commitment to developing lesson plans that provide students with skill-based experiences aligned to the district's standards-based health curriculum. The teacher uses data from formative and summative assessments to drive instructional decisions. They established a teaming culture and high expectations of learning for all students with the effective implementation of strategies, structure, and high expectations to achieve measurable academic, physical and social-emotional success. Job Duties / Responsibilities Implementation of the K-6=5 standards-based U-46 Health Education curriculum and assessments. Assume personal responsibility for the academic progress and success of all students. Strong knowledge and implementation of SEL into the Health Education curriculum. Assesses students' skills, knowledge and abilities pertaining to Health Education for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, administration and state reporting. Use consistent school-wide practices, teaming experiences and individualized methods to engage all students. Develop lessons, assessments and rubrics aligned to the

curriculum. Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a physical and emotional safe and optimal learning environment for all students. Communication and collaboration with parents, classroom teachers, and district health team. Implementation of movement as an instructional strategy in health education lessons. Participates in training, meetings and professional development for the purpose of gathering information to improve teaching and learning. Provide administration directed instructional support or intervention if content specific minutes do not meet the specials instructional minutes target. This would be designated as "owed time." Education Bachelor's degree required. Professional Educator License (PEL) PEL with a Health Education endorsement (PK-12) or a Short-Term Approval for Health Education (PK-12) required.
Experience / Knowledge
Develop and implement a variety of assessments and ability to use data regularly to refine instructional practices. Ensure smooth operation of all classroom instructional functions. Develop and maintain a positive, engaging, and safe classroom culture. Implementation of technology into the health education classroom for student and teacher use during activity and assessment. Ability to adapt to changing work priorities, understanding diverse perspectives, building collaborative relationships with parents and community organizations, and implementing effective lessons. Use of movement as an instructional strategy to support students' academic/behavioral success. Physical Demands The job's functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing a cart, and setting teaching on a cart in a variety of classrooms. The job requires 95% standing, walking, and 5% sitting when not with students. Work in a variety of settings, multipurpose rooms or classrooms. Ability to push a cart with materials and technology to switch between classes daily Terms of Employment This is a 10-month position (184 days).
