Long-Term Substitute Wellness (Physical Education/Health) Teachers
TYPE OF POSITION
Full-time (1.0); 2026-2027 school year; Anticipated 8/31/26-10/23/26 & 8/31/26-2/22/27; salary $150.00-$294.63/day

NOTE:
More than one position may be filled from this vacancy announcement. The Wellness (Physical Education/Health) Teacher creates a flexible grade-appropriate physical education and wellness program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth, establishes effective rapport with students, and motivates students to develop the skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide good foundation for lifelong wellness, in accordance with each student's ability.
DUTIES:
Duties include, but are not limited to: Teaches knowledge and skills in health and/or physical fitness maintaining a safe environment and employing safe practices for students participating in physical activities, following the course of study adopted by the Board of Education, and other appropriate learning activities, while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and involvement. Monitors students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate; Remains up-to-date regarding Massachusetts Comprehensive Health Curriculum Framework core concepts in using information and services; Evaluates, tries innovative approaches, and refines instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies available to teachers, to increase student learning, involvement, and confidence to learn; Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to, the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning; Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at professional development events, and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for re-certification; Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building and school district, attending all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed; Other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered qualified for the position of Wellness (Physical Education/Health) Teacher, candidates must have/be: Licensed, or eligible for licensure in Health/Family & Consumer Sciences and Physical Education, in the assigned grade(s), by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education; Bachelor's Degree, Master's preferred, from an accredited college or university, in a related field; Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults; Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies; Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and in conformity with state certification requirements.
