.4 FTE Physical Education Teacher
Job Description:
The Physical Education teacher will engage students in developing lifelong wellness
  • including physical fitness, self-esteem, and interpersonal skills
  • through health, safety, recreation, and dance.
The Physical Education teacher will instruct students in sports, recreational activities, and healthy lifestyle topics to encourage and develop lifelong physical fitness, self-esteem, and interpersonal skills.
Supervision:
Works under the supervision of the Principal. Based on the annual performance evaluation results, the Principal determines consideration for continued employment.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Implements the assigned physical education classes to pupils in a classroom.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each pupil's needs.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil progress and to interpret the school program.
  • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members to support each student's health and physical education experience.
  • Provides adapted physical education to students as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a safe, functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluates pupils' progress, maintains appropriate records, and communicates student progress to classroom teachers.
  • Creates an effective learning environment through functional and attractive activities and displays.
  • Designs and presents lessons that educate and instruct students on current physical fitness trends.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Actively seeks to increase knowledge of best practices in physical education through collaboration with colleagues and by seeking out and attending professional development opportunities.
  • Encourages students to establish a physically active, healthy lifestyle
General Expectations:
Maintains strong attendance and punctuality. Maintains the trust and confidence of students. Works independently with general guidance. Maintains cooperative relationships with students and adults. Manages time to accomplish multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Operates standard office equipment, including computers, email, and copiers. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
Education and Experience:
  • Appropriate content/program area educator license, Physical Education licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
  • Experience working with curriculum accommodations to support students on IEPs, 504s, and English Language Learners
  • Superior interpersonal skills/ability to communicate and interact with parents, staff, and students.
  • SEI Endorsement preferred
Work Schedule:
2 Days a week from 8:15 a.m.
  • 3:15 p.
m. or a schedule determined mutually agreeable Salary prorated based on FTE.
