Position Summary:
Elysian Charter School is seeking a full-time K-8 Physical Education & Health Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. This is an exciting opportunity for an educator who is passionate about promoting health and wellness, developing students' physical literacy, and creating engaging learning experiences that inspire lifelong fitness and healthy habits. Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate Physical Education and Health instruction for students in grades K-8. Design lessons that develop physical literacy, motor skills, fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyle habits. Create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment where all students feel supported, challenged, and encouraged to participate. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and ensure equitable access to learning. Assess student progress using a variety of formal and informal measures and provide timely, meaningful feedback. Use student data to inform instruction and support continuous student growth. Build strong relationships with students and partner with families to support their academic, social, and physical development. Collaborate with classroom teachers, specialists, and administrators to support school-wide goals and student success. Organize and lead school-wide wellness initiatives, Field Day, fitness activities, and other community-building events. Maintain and organize physical education equipment while ensuring all safety procedures are followed. Participate actively in professional development, collaborative planning, faculty meetings, and school-wide events. Prepare substitute lesson plans as needed and contribute to a collaborative, team-oriented school culture.
Qualifications:
Eligible for New Jersey Standard Certification or CE/CEAS in Physical Education and Health. Previous experience teaching elementary and/or middle school Physical Education preferred. Demonstrated ability to create engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that promote student growth. Experience differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues. Commitment to equity, inclusion, and fostering a welcoming learning environment for all students. Growth mindset and enthusiasm for ongoing professional learning and collaboration.
