We cultivate students' ability to apply their knowledge to solve problems and contribute to their communities as enlightened and responsible citizens. OWNCS is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Physical Education/Health Teacher to join our middle school team for the 2026-2027 school year. who will collaborate with a dynamic team of educators to deliver engaging, project-based learning experiences for students in grades 6-8. The ideal candidate will design and facilitate developmentally appropriate instruction and assessments aligned with the New York State Learning Standards, fostering students' intellectual, physical, and social growth while inspiring curiosity, critical thinking, and a passion for scientific inquiry. Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Education, or a related field New York State Physical Education certification or eligibility to obtain certification Strong classroom management and instructional skills Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Education or a related field Experience teaching middle school students Experience working in urban schools or charter school settings Familiarity with International Baccalaureate (IB) programs CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification The Physical Education/Health Teacher is responsible for creating and delivering engaging instruction that promotes physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, personal wellness, and social-emotional well-being for students in grades 6-8. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping students develop lifelong habits that support physical health, mental wellness, teamwork, leadership, and personal responsibility.
Responsibilities include:
Planning and delivering standards-aligned Physical Education and Health instruction Teaching fitness, movement skills, team and individual sports, nutrition, wellness, healthy decision-making, and personal health concepts Promoting lifelong physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits Helping students understand the connection between physical fitness, nutrition, mental health, and overall well-being Creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where all students can participate and succeed Differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners Assessing student growth through performance-based, formative, and summative assessments Encouraging teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, resilience, and personal responsibility Maintaining student safety during all physical education activities and instructional lessons Collaborating with instructional leaders, counselors, special education staff, ENL staff, and grade-level teams Communicating regularly with families regarding student progress and participation Participating in professional development, curriculum planning, and school-wide initiatives Supporting wellness programs, field days, athletic activities, and other school events as assigned
Pay & Benefits Salary Salary Range:
$72,562
- $115,136 based on education, certification, years of relevant experience, and verified prior service, in alignment with the OWNCS salary scale.
Employees with 30 credits beyond a master's degree (MA +30) may be eligible for additional compensation in accordance with the salary schedule. Schedule This is a 10-month instructional position , with salary and benefits distributed evenly over 12 months to ensure consistent income and year-round coverage.
