New York State Initial or Professional Certification in Physical Education (Grades 1-6 and/or 5-9) Position Overview Rochester Science Charter School is seeking a motivated and student-centered Physical Education Teacher to serve upper elementary students. The PE teacher will design and implement a comprehensive physical education program that promotes physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and lifelong healthy habits. The ideal candidate is passionate about student development, skilled in classroom and behavior management, and committed to creating an inclusive and engaging environment for all learners. Responsibilities Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate Physical Education instruction aligned with NYS Learning Standards for Physical Education Implement structured lessons that promote motor skills, physical fitness, coordination, and teamwork Create a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all students Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs and 504 plans Assess student performance and provide ongoing feedback on skill development and participation Manage equipment, gym spaces, and outdoor activity areas in an organized and safe manner Promote positive character development, sportsmanship, and social-emotional learning through physical activity Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and administration to support student success Support school-wide events such as field days, intramurals, and enrichment activities Maintain accurate records of attendance, participation, and student progress Qualifications Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Physical Education (Grades 1-6 and/or 5-9 required) Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health Education, Kinesiology, or related field Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate physical activity instruction Ability to manage active student groups in a structured and positive manner Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills Commitment to working in a diverse, urban charter school environment Preferred Qualifications Prior experience teaching PE at the elementary or middle school level Experience working in a charter or high-need school setting CPR/First Aid certification Performance Expectations Foster a culture of physical wellness and active participation Ensure student safety at all times during physical activity Demonstrate consistent engagement and high expectations for student behavior and effort Support the school's mission of academic and personal excellence through physical education Qualifications Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Physical Education (Grades 1-6 and/or 5-9 required) Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health Education, Kinesiology, or related field Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate physical activity instruction Ability to manage active student groups in a structured and positive manner Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills Commitment to working in a diverse, urban charter school environment Preferred Qualifications Prior experience teaching PE at the elementary or middle school level Experience working in a charter or high-need school setting CPR/First Aid certification
